  • My first ARF

    Hello again Squawkers!
I've been out for a few months working on this old home we bought. Still have a ways to go, having solar panels installed next week!, but finally able to find some play time. Been taking Woodstock down to the local park and flyin' there. Met a few good folks that come there to fly on weekends. This past weekend one of the OT's brought out a couple boxes of old planes "collecting dust" that he never took the time to build. One of which was an old discontinued E-Flite PT-19 450 ARF (CL or RC setup). Perfect mate to go with my PT-17, so I couldn't pass it up. Especially for the price. I figured it's a good one to try my first ARF build. Waiting on an elev servo before continuing with the build (just a skewer hold the prop in place for pics). Really enjoying the build though. Can't wait to maiden 'er.

Thanks! Waiting on a prop nut from tru-turn right now. Otherwise it's been 'pre'-balanced and throws are set for high and low rates. Hope to get it in the sky by next weekend or there abouts... fingers crossed.

It should do great. I used to have a Flybaby that was similar in design and she could almost fly without me. It was a super smooth and gentle plane.

Wondered where ya been! I want to stop by that park one of these days on the way home from work, since I take 101 west to get home.
You got a real prize there! I have been looking for one, but may have to settle for the Tower Hobby / GP version. Always liked that eFlite. Let me know how she flies!

Hey Michael... you should stop one of these days. Let me know when if do, I'm just a few blocks from there. Quite a few of the pilots that fly there are from AMPS and even that other Sun Valley(?) field. I'm sure you may know a few from your field. May be another week before I get my last part to finish this bird.

Will do. Wondered if you fly Woodstock II out there? If so I’ll bring mine but was thinking I may need to scale down a bit and was going to plan on bringing this or my Cub.

Woodstock and I hang out there more and more as we get this old place together. I'm sure I'll make it back to AMPS one day. A few pilots bring their gliders there as well. The biggest thing is the trainee's flying outta Deer Park there. They fly their routes over this way and can be quite low at times. Everyone flies their RCs with excellent respect to them though. Probably good for their training to be flying around "hazards" like us too.

Looks like fun to me, Blues! I racked up probably close to 2000 hours flying those same airplanes with students...
trust me, they don’t even know you are there, but good for you all, as the burden is on modelers not to attract any more negative attention.

Finally got Sloopy all done and took him out for his maiden flight this morning. Again, I had one of the guys trim him out for me. Not a lot, I dialed him in pretty good. After that I put two more batteries though him. Flew nice, although a little 'shaky' in turns. Coulda just been my nervous thumbs on the stick though. Otherwise perfect maiden...

Congrats on a successful Maiden mate.

Thanks Woody! I now have four good flyin' planes at my disposal. Maybe a bad choice of wording there(?). Three of which I'm pretty comfortable with on my learning curve at the moment.Whistler's Brother still gets my anxiety way over loaded when I even think about putting him up! :Silly:

Nice looking plane! First time is always the worst. But trust me here, if you let them sit for to long, it's the first time all over again. LOL
