Dynam Seawind

I picked up this neat little plane from Motion last week.  I have flown it from grass, without the wheels, and from water twice.  So far I am very pleased with it.  It is very stable in the air, much like a high wing trainer.  Taxing and take offs from water have been uneventful, though like most seaplanes, it does want to weather vein into the wind while taxing.

My only issue has been water landings.  I haven't had any major mishaps and have been able to taxi to shore after each flight, but I haven't managed a landing yet that didn't involve a bounce or three.  It wants to skip along the water like a flat stone.

I have a Flyzone Tidewater which I can land as smooth a silk nearly every time, no bounces.  I'm hoping I can master the Seawind as well, as touch and go's and smooth landings on water are very cool.

Jim-Thanks very much for the review on the Dynam Seawind. I have been looking at this one, and also have the Flyzone Tidewater and wondered how they compared. Like you, I am very pleased with the Tidewater and have no issues with landing it or flying it from water. I might have to add the Seawind to my fleet soon!

That thing looks nice... But I think the new Seawind by (Flyzone??) Is coming out soon. Waterproof Retracts. I think it's going to sell for a little over $200...

But both are super cool models...

After reading/watching the Flyzone Seawind intro by Matt Gunn on RCG, I am definitely getting the Flyzone. Our club has several outings at a local lake for those who enjoy flying off the water. I want the Seawind so I can get "my feet wet", so to speak, with an amphibious model. I see nothing here regarding MRC stocking this new model.

I'm sure they will Denny.... They have all the Flyzone planes currently available and I can't imagine that they wouldn't stock this one. :)

I saw the info on the new Flyzone Seawind.  I'm looking forward to some flight video, especially from water, and a review. 


The Dynam Seawind flies great.  My only complaint is the hull seems to want to skip on water landings.  I have yet to find a sweet spot in the landing attitude/speed that will allow nice smooth landings.  The Flyzone Tidewater on the other hand, lands like it is sliding onto glass about every time.  I'm hoping the new Flyzone Seawind will benefit from some of hull design work the Flyzone Tidewater received.  I have two Flyzone Beavers, one I leave on floats just for water flying and a Tidewater.  If this new offering from Flyzone is as good as the Beaver and Tidewater, it will go to the top of my "I want it" list.



On slightly off topic note.  I recently picked up the Skipper XL from HK.  So far I am liking it.  I did one of my vinyl wrap jobs on it because I didn't care for the decals that come with it.  It doesn't skip as bad as the Dynam Seawind when landing on water and takes off from grass with no trouble at all.  It looks really cool in the air.  I'm looking forward to flying it from snow soon.  If you like seaplanes, check it out.

Yeah WV, that Skipper is pretty funky! I think that the Flyzone SeaWind will be a pretty good deal, in comparison to other similar models. I like the fact that it has windows and a cockpit. Just one of my weird desires... Lol. Also, having retracts, and being around the same price as the RTF Dynam... Well, almost... But seems like a better deal, possibly. I wonder when we'll see it?

This is mine from about a year ago. It flies on 4s with a 3-blade prop. My friend has it now and continues to fly it.

Indeed, it is. I really miss it now that winter is here. My buddy has so much fun with his off the snow. I'm thinking of replacing it with another one but I may go with the Flyzone Seawind this time. I like the slightly bigger size but I may need to convert it to 4s as well.

I received my dynam Seawind awhile back so I had a plane I could enjoy year around from grass, water or snow.

The ESC that came with it was bad but thanks to Wayne and Brad at Motion RC it was replaced quickly.
I put in a Lemon Rx gyro receiver and have had a blast with this plane..
I got 4 flights on it yesterday flying off of grass and enjoyed it alot.
The only bad habits I've found is how it likes to drop the nose on WOT.. so if I have to make a go around or something I just ease into the throttle and it's fine.

I've only flown it off water once and it somehow got water inside the plane and reciever so I added some magnets but haven't been able to try it again since the lake is now frozen. Lol
I also don't like the prop striking the top of the fuselage but I don't think anything can be done about that.
I'm definitely liking this plane more and more with every flight...

The only problem with this one is it's not in the US warehouse. I had one when it was available from the US warehouse and it was a good flying plane. I still have the small one though

I couldn't stand the pilots that came with the plane so I had a civilian pilot from a Freewing Space Walker that is alot closer to scale size for this plane and I added him with a little work.
i had to cut out around him so he could get the proper head clearance needed and I did a 2 tone gray and blue interior.
I also cut out gauges from a old PZ T-28 and a Dynam P-47 I had laying around to make something to resemble an instrument panel.
I was trying for a scale Seawind panel but couldn't get it sized right on my computer to print it out and finally gave up and went this route.. lol

The ends of the brace must have a good "footprint" so they don't dig into the foam. An alternative to this would be to use a 3 blade prop of the same pitch but 1" less diameter or go with a 4-blade and 2" less diameter. If you hit hard enough, the prop will still hit the top of the fuse. That motor pod is simply to flexible.
I gave my Seawind to a friend and this is what he did with it. You can do it much nicer looking but since it was a "hand me down", he didn't care what it looked like. It works. The bigger one in the foreground is my current Flyzone Seawind. It has a much stiffer motor pod.

I'm not positive at this point. The picture doesn't blow up well enough for me to read the label on the blades. I also have the Dynam Grand Cruiser, so it may be one of the props from that plane. For sure, I used the spinner and back plate from the Gr. Cruiser. I'll check with my buddy who has my old Seawind and ask him to take a look.

My buddy had a look today and it's a MAS prop (Master AirScrew). He couldn't see what size it was. I would try a 9x6x3 or 8x7x3. However, the brace is the best mod to reduce the chance of a blade strike.
