The specs call for a 4S 3600 lipo, but I see in the reviews that a few guys are using 3000, did they upgrade something in the plane that calls for 3600's ? The reason I ask is, I have 3300 and I was wondering if I could use them if I purchased this plane

RE: Freewing P-51 without sound
there's no reason you can't use some 3300's that you already have. Just make sure and check CG. I use 4s 3600 in mine, and 5s 3300. I just made sure and marked in the battery compartment where the 4s went, and where the 5s went, to keep CG the same no matter which battery I went with.Originally posted by weedsnagerThe specs call for a 4S 3600 lipo, but I see in the reviews that a few guys are using 3000, did they upgrade something in the plane that calls for 3600's ? RE: Freewing P-51 without sound
I use 3600 4s in mine. I have the sound system which requires an extra battery , so the 3600 is all the way forward and the sound system battery is slightly back, maybe a half inch. I understand that the sound system in Old Crow is an upgraded version that doesn't need a separate battery. Personally, the sound system is no big deal to my mind and for the extra weight, I would have went without the system in hind sight. Mr R/C Sound system is probably the better bet, at least weight wise.
Getting back to the battery, the manual I have calls for a 2200 4s! Go figure, I wonder if anyone has tried that?

No upgrade of anything. Just the difference in storage capacity in the batteries. Which will also effect size and weight difference between the batteriesOriginally posted by weedsnagerThe specs call for a 4S 3600 lipo, but I see in the reviews that a few guys are using 3000, did they upgrade something in the plane that calls for 3600's ? RE: Freewing P-51 without sound
Hey fellas, got out to Cowley today and gave
Old Crow a spin. She flew great and as we were on the subject of landing technique, I thought I'd show you what I gained in knowledge from the guys in the forum like Lon. Call this a tip of the hat and a 'thank you ' from me to you.
I did some touch and goes and of course, take offs in a breeze and all with the same results. I had the sound system on in one of the three flights and left it off on the others, just put the battery in place to maintain the CG. Basically kept the elevator back while taxiing and lining up, advanced the throttle while returning the elevator to neutral, watching the speed and advancing throttle while steering, tail came up and off she went, nice and straight. Touch and goes were the same, just advanced the throttle , back into the air, and had enough speed to do an aggressive assent. All in all a great day, thanks again!!

RE: Freewing P-51 without sound
Hey Lon, can't remember if you've done the zip tie mod on yours?
I tried a small one and it seemed to help, I also tossed the wing tanks as I think they were causing too much drag.
I upgraded Big Beautiful Doll with a KV 580 and put thicker zip ties on her. Got her up today and WOW!! does she ever haul!!!
My only concern was for the ESC, but interestingly enough, she comes with a 70 Amp where the zero has the 580 with a 65Amp, go figure.
So, now I thinking of upgrading the zip ties on Old Crow and see what happens. Same power plant but a heavier plane.
I may upgrade to an 85Amp ESC in the winter. What was it you're using again?

yes, I've been flying with the zip tie mod and 5s on mine, and not a thin zip tie :)Originally posted by Grossman56Hey Lon, can't remember if you've done the zip tie mod on yours?
