  • Iron Ass gets a cockpit upgrade

Well, Iron Ass is still in the hangar recovering from her "meeting" with Dallas Doll so I thought why not get rid of those ugly foam blisters aft of the pilot.  Also couldn't stand the colors so I got the canopy off and did a few mods.  First I repainted the dark grey parts with zinc chromate and flat black.  Got online and looked for some ideas of roughly what the rear area should look like and then came up with a very loose interpretation that I made with some scrap lite plywood, some other scrap wood pieces, some beads (thanks to my wife :) ), some pushpins I cut the tops off of, and some wire from an old light fixture ballast and.................VOILA:

WOW! What an outstanding job.  Just wish I could do something like this.  Love the creativity.

            Hey, Great job!
I've looked at mine as well, the cockpit is pretty narrow, but the radio is a great place to start.  Think about a gunsight as well, that always looks cool.

If you have a lot of picture framing pieces, check them out, that's where I got all the parts to make one for BBD and it turned out pretty good.

Its a couple of those little plastic pieces that hold the canvas into the frame and the little half round piece is one of the rubber snubbers that keep the frame from scratching the wall.
Sometimes you get creative, what can I say!?
