  • Sr-22T motor noise

I just purchased the SR-22 and right out of the box the motor has been making a weird noise. It happens when I increase the speed of the motor. It sounds like a grinding noise and happens intermittently, however frequently during flight in half-second intervals. I notice a decrease in rpm when it happens also. Any ideas on this?

Have you tried removing the cowling and then running the motor to see if the noise persists? On my old one, that top, front cowl was not installed properly. The "catches" that hold the cowl in place are awkward to line up. I can see that the factory worker who put the plane together may have not taken the time to do it right. If the noise goes away with the cowl off, then you have your answer. It's the motor or spinner rubbing up against some part of the cowl. Putting it back on is not intuitive and getting the pieces to fit together properly so the catches line up may not be straight forward. It's a dumb design and fitment is poor at best.

Yes I thought the same thing at first. It does sound like its rubbing against something or catching on something, but I took the top cowling off and it still does it.

Is the motor mount solid? Can you wiggle the motor at all? How about the motor shaft? Does it have a lot of play in it? If these are not right, then it's a warranty issue. There's not much else you can do without voiding the warranty. Get a close up video with sound and send it in.

Well I tightened up the motor mounts and rechecked all the wiring, etc. and it did it did it one time and that was it. It’s almost like there was some trash or something in there . I’ve had three flights and it has run perfectly. Thanks for the help!

Strange, but if it worked, take it.
