  • Recently Ordered Parkzone Sukhoi SU-29MM with SAFE (44") Wingspan

I am looking at getting into 3D and ordered this plane to help me learn. I would like to hear others who have purchased this plane and what are your thoughts?

I have been flying that plane for around 2 years now. It's a good flyer. The hardest part is getting your radio set up correctly for the flight modes. Download the manual, IIRC it helps if you have a 3 position switch on your transmitter. Most of the time I'm flying in precision mode, sometimes in 3D mode. I never fly in "stagility" mode. Keep a little power on when landing.

Thanks for the advice. I use a DX6 transmitter so I have a 3 position switch.

I am having some trouble setting up the three modes. I have had other SAFE planes and I know this is different but is the travel on the control surfaces supposed to be the same? How do I know I am in stagility, 3d, or precision mode?

The 3 gyro modes will not have different travels...unless you also program "dual rates" to the same switch.

Its 3 different effects of the SAFE Gyro system.

Go through initialization after turning on the TX and airplane. Set the TX down. Move the airplane around and watch the controls respond to the gyro. Change gyro modes and move the plane around and watch the control responses. The speed of response and amount of control effect due to your moving the airplane will be different in the 3 different modes. Some of the differences may be easier to see than others...

I found out that that stagility mode and 3D modes the control surfaces travel the same distance but in precision mode the travel for the control surfaces are less than the other two modes and that is pre programmed on the receiver. No user input from me unless I wanted to further dial down the rates.

Called Horizon Hobby and they walked me through this process. I had everything already setup they just confirmed it.
