Is it possible to disable the ailerons on this RC plane so it can be flown like the super cub LP 1.2m ( which only has tail control and throttle ) that doesn’t have ailerons?

Not recommended, but if you unplug them, they won’t work.Originally posted by 907AKflyer99686 View PostIs it possible to disable the ailerons on this RC plane so it can be flown like the super cub LP 1.2m ( which only has tail control and throttle ) that doesn’t have ailerons?
This airplane is not designed for that type of flying, which requires the wing to be “self righting” which requires more dihedral, which this airplane does not have because it does have ailerons.
Sick with the Beginner modes and get some lessons from someone that knows the airplane - not just an experienced RC Pilot.

A plane with wings that has no dihedral can’t be flown easily with rudder and elevator alone. If the thing begins to roll due to air movement or imbalance, the rudder won’t be able to correct it quick enough. It will do the death spiral. Take a look at the wings on the Super Cub with no ailerons. You can see that the main wings are bent upwards from the center (dihedral). That’s what allows it to be corrected for roll by rudder alone. Now look at the wings on the Carbon Cub. It is flat on top from tip to tip.

New to the forum, hi guys.
just purchased a carbon cub s rtf and had it for 2 weeks and has not been flown yet.
the reason is — I scratch my head at (the calibration and gps system which is totally confusing me)
will I be ok to fly it without calibrating it?
will I still be able to change flight modes without calibration?
look forward to any reply

If it were me, I would not fly it without the proper calibration. Some or all of the flight modes are likely dependent upon that calibration. I’m not so sure it will even allow you to fly it without all the set up being done. If it does, I would be afraid that trying to change flight modes to something that won’t understand what it’s supposed to do may end in disaster. I would suggest you go over step by step, point by point on what needs to be done. Even better, find someone else to help you. A second set of eyes and another brain might be useful.
As an example, my Eflite quad has a similar calibration and without it, it won’t even allow the motors to run.

I just cannot find any u tube videos to help from building to maiden flight with the carbon cub s rtf
i believe it finds gps itself when battery is installed and switched on, it’s just this calibration i can’t get my head around!
just looking for some easy steps to start flying after building the aircraft up.
To be honest the instructions are bit confusing or possibly just me as I am new to fixed wing.

On page 13 of the manual, it lays out step by step what you have to do to calibrate this thing. There are only 8 steps. Of course, you must have done everything up to page 8 properly. What you are calibrating is the compass so the plane knows where North, South, East, West is. Yes, it will find the satellites on its own but this can take up to 30 seconds or more. Once it tells you that it's in "calibration" mode (step 4), you begin the calibration. Is this what is confusing you? You pick up the plane with your hands and make it do 2 somersaults (over its nose 2 complete rotations) being careful that you don't drop it. You can change hand holds positions as much as you like so long as you keep it turning as smoothly as you can. Then, while you are still holding the plane in your hands, you "roll" the plane 2 complete turns. Then you can put the plane down (or keep holding it still) and do step #7 and #8. This seems pretty clear to me. It it's still not clear to you, I think you need to take this back to the hobby shop where you bought it and get the RC guy there to show you. You only ever need to do this once so long as you fly it in the same relative location.

There are a few more, and really - while the instructions can be a bit overwhelming, take the propeller off and do it in your living room or garage where you can spread out on the floor and go over the start up. You can’t screw it up and if it does not give the desired result, just start over. You go this.Originally posted by xviper View Post

Agreed! However, he needs to be outside with a clear view of the sky in order to properly pick up the satellites. Some of my GPS units need upwards of 6 sats. This Cub may only need 3 or 4. It's hard to get a decent signal indoors.Originally posted by F22trainer View Post

Yes sorry guys.
i am new to fixed wing but been flying drones for 5 years and currently still flying my mavic pro to which I enjoy for photography.
please , I am not changing the subject to drones,
i appreciate the few videos sent from u tube for the carbon cub
to which I have seen but to be honest there are none going through 1st maiden flight , compass calibration and gps in one video.
I watched one from RC girl on u tube and to me there is the important part missing before you fly , gps and calibration.
I have appreciated all response to my query .
very much appreciated.

I don't get it. Why do you need to see all of it in one video? Everything you need to know is in the manual and if that's not enough, you even have videos that show you the rest. Surely, you glean all the information you require by watching multiple videos. There are times when those who get help are the ones who help themselves. This is one of those times. Being new to fixed wing is not a good reason for not gathering all the information you need from whatever sources you can get. Unless, you are pulling our legs about being this helpless, in which case, I think I'm leaving this thread now. This could be a set up.Originally posted by Boydy1 View Postto which I have seen but to be honest there are none going through 1st maiden flight , compass calibration and gps in one video.

It’s ok mate no problem.
its not a wind up I promise.
I will go back to the drawing board and read the manual.
just looking for good tips from pilots flying the same aircraft.
There would not be a forum if there were not persons like me looking for experienced pilots for a bit help.
however thank you for your help.

It’s a fun airplane to fly boydy1 - I was a bit over cautious myself, but it all comes together if you just follow the manual. If it does not produce the described result, unhook everything and start over. The scary part is if you launch his thing and don’t know what it is going to do - it may run away from you, or at you. You will be fighting’s to control it and the gps will be trying to do what it is programmed to do. Not safe - and that has nothing to do with the modes. Lol!
