  • New Request C-130 or Vietnam Transports

New to the thread, but not the rc world. I, as most RC pilots, love a cool fighter, be it prop or jet. But, is there not a way to make a C-130 or a C-7A Caribou?

I know, the manufacturer wants to make a plane that will sell in the thousands and for many years. And all of us have seen great planes come and go.

Id love to see a really nice C-130 (and yes I have the GWS one) Living near the Home of the Herk (Little Rock Air Force Base) I can see a lot of sales to the pilots and flight crews going throught training there.

After seeing the popularity of the HK SkyMule - it just makes to develop a true transporter C-7 (kinda obscure, unless your from the US, Canada, or Australia its a great twin engine STOL) or a really good C-130. My dad flew the C-7 in Vietnam and I feel in love with it as a kid.

    Thanks for your time

RE: New Request C-130 or Vietnam Transports

A C-130 would be interesting but I think it would need to be a big aircraft to capture all the detail. There is someone building a scratch built (I think) over at the RCgroup page.

I'm not familiar with the GWS C-130, do you have a link? Found a few videos but nothing about the actual model.

I do love a good C-130. One of our employees used to be a loadmaster for C-130s, what a job!

I've flown the GWS C-130, and it's fun and a good size. The main challenge modeling foam electric airliners and transports has always been the landing gear. Scale sized wheels end up being tiny, reserved for pavement or the smoothest of rolled dirt or mat. Grass is almost always a non-starter. The same could be said with F-Hobby's C-17. Retracts are a must, otherwise it doesn't look right (Eflite). The easiest way to size up the landing gear is to size up the plane, but then costs go up and the market shrinks. All in all it's a challenge. But, hopefully one that can be overcome in the future. I'd love to see an AC-130 Spectre one day.

Yes I would be more than happy to design an Aerial Delivery System for it!!! God I do miss it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2X_kfy9cEg

The GWS "Cargotrans" was my first multi. Flew great actually, and I modeled it after the EC-130H "Compass Call" I was a crew member on back in the 80s-90s.

I see that FN-RC is making one. Would love to see them coordinate with Freewing and bring a kit to market!

I refueled many a EC-130 as a boomer in the 135. We used to call the 130's baloney slicers because if you went to far left or right of center with the boom chop! chop!

A C-7 Caribou would be awesome, with operational cargo doors to drop stuff out of it. I'd fill mine with paratroopers. :)

That would be a very desirable model so all I have to say is, "Please, DO NOT make one of these!" I would feel compelled to have to buy one.
The GWS version seemed too small and too toy like for my tastes. A 1500mm to 1600mm size done up in Freewing or FMS quality would be too tempting.

I'm currently building the Sonic Modell (HobbyKing) 1875mm B-17. I would love to see a nice scale C-130 done in this size!
