  • Request for a P-61 in 1600mm or larger?

Here is one I have been wanting to do for a Loooong time. I would love to see a new P-61 with options like Flight line has done for either OD green or Night fighter black. in about the same size 1600mm or so size wise? would be good and manageable with detachable wings, much like the new Flight line P-38 that just released.

    and in EPO...NO EPS!!!

So.... Tom & MRC folks....that's my suggestion and request for Future RC Model.  ;)

    Nooooo...

I'd have to buy one and I don't have room!

I would love to see one as well! But the issue is the black paint vs. sunlight causing gator skin. If there was a thin plastic coating, maybe similar to the RClander jets maybe this could be avoided though.

I actually want to see it in the OD green top and gray bottom, and that's the way I would do mine

Wing airfoil choice will be critical with that closely placed stabilizer. The full size had issues with turbulence from the gun turret. Also if molded in EPO it will alligator skin in milliseconds in the bright hot sun if painted black. This is a problem with the dark blue F-4U. They should come with a cover as standard issue to protect the foam from the sun.

Bring it back to the P-38 an all black night fighter would also need this sun shield. Now that would be a hot model I think about all that would be needed is a new center pod cover and radar pod!

I would prefer the OD green version with Grey underneath. That would tolerate the sun  and UV better, and give better visibility for orientation. That's the one I want to see.

Based on color I wonder how black actually compares with other colors as far as UV absorption? As it gets hot so easily I'd assumed in was adsorbing energy closer to infrared than ultraviolet. But it does absorb the whole light spectrum.

I wonder what would need to be done to the center section to maintain a sharp trailing edge (minimize turbulence) on a production model?

I think a Black Widow would be cool. It had spoilerons so I guess the model would need big ailerons to fly decent.

Having flown VQ's 1/9 scale P-61, I can say it's a treat in the sky and moves about much like the P-38, just heavier. The challenge would be the black foam. It's a nonstarter, frankly. So if we ever did one, it would be OD. That's a big if, by the way. But reading eager chatter about a requested model never hurts the cause.

I agree about the Black version...that would have to be a modeler's choice...I would prefer the OD my self. Definatelyone to keep in mind and would be a BIG hit I feel

I dont care what color, would just like one ! We could make it what we wanted. Black would be cool, but UV protective coating would be a must. Varathane makes a water based product with UV protectant, called Valspar. That I have heard very good reports on from Grossman aka CanYank... DJ

I think a P-61 would fit right in with FlightLineRC's mantra. A popular plane that is seldom modeled. I would buy one, especially in a 1600mm to 2000mm size.

Noted. The P-38 is off to a good start, and if this trend continues then that's encouraging for additional planes in this format.

I've wanted a P-61 for so long, that I went on line and found a set of plans for a 1600mm size bird. It's meant for two .40 engines, but that wouldn't be hard to swap out. I've printed out the full size drawings and I'm considering cutting out the parts. If there were a CHANCE that one would become available in foam, I would much rather buy that than cut, sand, and fit my own pieces.
                                  GO FOR IT!!!

                                    Hey Ol'
I've just started to use this product, so don't quote me yet, but I think its going to be pretty good at the least. Its made for outdoor use and has a UV protectant so, we'll see, but I think its the best bet out there. Still, it just makes sense to park your planes in the shade if you can. Heck, I've put some of them back in the P/U bead and just left the topper up for shade. I can personally attest to Shangrila getting pretty warm in the sun, so even OD planes have to be watched, does wonders for big decals like I have on the Pitts though.
