  • Carbon Cub Z SS 2.1 ---- Ringing Noise from ESC

So I got this monster assembled & for some reason when you turn the ESC on...it makes a ringing noise. I've disconnected all inputs and it's definitely not any control surface or servo, it's just the ESC making noise when powered up. At first I thought it was a servo...but it's simply power to the ESC = ringing noise. Is this normal?

You should make a video and post it. Sounds are hard to describe via typed words.

That's definitely the ESC making the motor give that high pitched humming. What happens when you give it a little throttle? Do an experiment to confirm this. Can you get at the 3 wires that goes from the ESC to the motor? You should be able to disconnect them and then power it up and the noise should be gone. While you're at it, make sure all 3 of those connections are plugged in well when you look at them. Is there a plug that's not fully plugged in and perhaps the bare metal it touching something else that's metal? Take the prop off to be safe.
Additionally, after you bound it, did you take the bind plug out (if there is one)? Then, do you power up the TX first, then the plane?

So it's definitely the Flap & Aileron servos. I disconnected each control surface one by one & diagnosed it. What's weird is that even upon moving them in either direction, they STILL make the whining noise. You'd think that if it's under stress (causing the whine) then at some movement in some direction...it would reduce the stress & stop the noise. Any thoughts?

But I thought you eliminated those in your first post. Boy, do I feel stupid now. No more thoughts. My first one was so far off, not guessing on this anymore.

That noise is from the digital servos and is normal. It's just what the servos do, they are noisey, but very quick. I think the servos in the Cessna 150 are the same, they make the same noise. We have several of these planes at my club field and they all make that whining noise. Just go fly and enjoy, both are great flying planes.

Exactly...all of them do it. The motor is the weak spot on the first version, not sure if V2 has the same motor or not ;)
