  • Updated E-flite T-28 Trojan/Parkzone T-28 Trojan

E-flite upgraded their E-flite T-28 Trojan and I do my best to answer if it is still the best RC Foamy during the Unboxing & Preliminary Review of this upgraded RC Plane legend.

    RC Plane Review Notes:

    Pros:
    - The option of using 3S or 4S power
    - A proven and legendary airframe
    - SAFE/AS3X Receiver with the BNF Basic version
    - Stronger nose wheel
    - Carbon fiber added to the horizontal stab
    - Very quick RC Airplane build time
    - Easy radio setup with recommended radios
    - ESC works well with Spektrum Smart packs & lets you know if your flight packs are not charged enough to fly

    Cons:
    - Color is a con for me, but may be a Pro for some due to increased visibility.
    - No retracts, but this price point for a BNF, does imply that.
    - The air gap in the canopy is a con for me, but should not be the end of the world.

In the video below, I fly the updated RC Plane Legend for the first time.

I know this an older post so hopefully someone will reply…
I am a newbie to the hobby and have a question about transmitter setup for this plane. The transmitter setup chart in my
manual calls for setting the retracts (gear) channel to reverse. What’s the purpose of this setting? This model doesn’t have retracts. Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

Are you sure it’s the right instructions. Could it be using ch5 for AS3X or something?

First, are you sure you have the plane that is the topic of this thread? IE, 1.1M T-28 Trojan BNF or PNP. What you are describing refers to the small UMX sized T-28, where you reverse the gear channel. This has to do with SAFE. You reverse it so that the position of the switch corresponds to what form of SAFE or AS3X you want. Do you have the little one or the 1.1m one?

In this 1.1M T-28, I see NO reversing of any channel. The SAFE switch is done by a different sort of selection process. Also, how to set up the TX depends on which TX you are using.

I have the 1.1m T-28. When I get home, I’ll post a picture of the setup table from the manual.

The first picture is my manual’s title page. The second picture is the transmitter setup chart, with the highlighted channel in question.

That's interesting and odd. Here is page 7 of the manual I downloaded from Horizon Hobby for your plane. As you can see, the part about reversing the gear channel is missing from my download.

However, not to worry, same applies in this plane. Since the plane doesn't have gear (retracts), they are using that channel for SAFE on/off. On my downloaded manual, page 10, it also goes on to show you how to select a switch, which you may still have to do. Reversing mearly allows SAFE to be ON or OFF in the positions they think is most user friendly. It really doesn't matter which position does what so long as you know what they are. You can simplify by assigning a voice announcement IF your TX has such a feature. On planes that have retracts, you would NOT use the gear channel.

Thanks for the information, xviper! I have assigned SAFE successfully. Everything seems to be working correctly as far as control surfaces go. Looking forward to her maiden flight.
