  • XK Model J3 can't move elevator

Hi...Rather new to the hobby...and purchased the XK Model J3 with Gyro 650mm

I've noticed, even in gyro mode...I have very little elevator movement. Actually no down movement what soever. What do I need to do to fix this ?
    Thanks !

Note: I don't have this plane. Is this plane brand new, out of the box? When you put it together, did you detach the clevis from the control surfaces and "exercise" each one. The hinges can be quite stiff. When you move the sticks, do you hear the little servos moving and just see the wire rod just bending but not moving the control surface much? Apparently, in "gyro" mode, you can't fly this plane very aggressively, so very little control surface movement anyway. It's when you take it off the gyro, that you get way more movement.

Thank you for your quick response. The plane is brand new. I did not exercise the elevators that much but I have noticed that when I activate them the wire tends to bend more inside the plane then the control surface for the elevator. It also seems that that servo does not go through a full range even without the gyro activated.

The bending rod may be what is missing in the travel of the elevator. You should do the exercising of ALL control surfaces. Remove the linkage and manually move each surface (ailerons, elevator and rudder) from one end of it's bendable travel to the other. Do this till you feel very little resistance to the movement. Then reconnect the linkage and try again. It may be all the travel this plane needs to fly properly. Is there a high rate and low rate capability on your TX? If so, test on high rates (more travel).

Thank you....and will do and let you know how it works out.

This is an olde thread, but seems to be a common problem with the XK J3. I have tried exercising the servos, but the elevator servos hardly move even with the linkage removed. Has anyone else seen this problem? Any hints on how to correct?

Does the manual show how much movement you should get?

How are the servo travels set on your transmitter?
