    Foam Tac, Welders adhesive, E- 6000. I've tried them all, and they all work great, However, you can buy E- 6000 at walmart. As far as I can tell, they seem to be, basically the same thing, but very useful! Doc

      Sorry I know little about that plane. But generally I'd remove the damaged hard point, replace with plastic or wood and use some glass cloth to spread the load over more of the parent foam.


      Nail polish, How does a lacquer replace the lost strength to the brittle plastic (de-plasticized plastic)? The base plastic is damaged by the loctite to an area that is surprising large. The damage is not localized to just the threaded area.

        Starmax is the Brand/manufacturer. They also make the L4 version too. I snagged the L4 about a year ago when HK had them at an awesome sale price of $112 and free shipping, how could I not go for it. I have beat the snot out of that bird with some ridiculous G maneuvers and it is still going strong other than a couple stress cracks in the windscreen which required some CA to keep them from spreading. It is also a capable relaxing flier as a J3 should be if you just want a lazy afternoon flyer.

          Stress cracks; You guys know to stop drill these before attempting a repair?

          How is the structure stressed (made up) to handle those ridiculous 'G' maneuvers? What I still don't know is the wing a true cantilevered design. Or are the struts structural and critical to the integrity of the design.

            Konrad,
            Good point on the stop drilling because I gotta believe that most folks aren't aware of that practice and yes I did do it with a micro fine bit and filled the hole along with the crack using the CA. The answer to your wing design question is no it does not have a true cantilever design. For those that aren't aware, a cantilever is a beam anchored at only one end. It is the typical foamie center carbon fiber spar design whereas the spar is located centrally in the wing passing through the cockpit into the first third of each wing panel. The wing struts absolutely provide structural integrity of the design especially regarding excessive lifting loads. Because the spar passes through the top of the one piece bucket shaped cockpit/canopy/windscreen, the flexing of that spar is the most likely cause of the stress cracks in the windscreen during those high G pull ups from the exaggerated steep dives that I did that a J3 would never normally see. Without those struts, there probably was a good chance that the wing could have separated the cockpit/canopy pod from the fuselage. For the money, it is a pretty rock solid design and a really good one to just go have fun with whether you are doing touch n go's or just blowing holes in the clouds.
