  • Ressurecting a crashed 1700mm P-47 WIP

I acquired one of these in a trade a few weeks ago. It was obviously in a bad crash...or a pissed off wife. The fuselage was cracked on one side, and wrinkled up on the other, which, you may notice the bend towards the tail end. So far Ive managed to get the bend out as best I could..looks pretty straight now.

Heres the fuse straighten out ..also have a couple of questions...
#1 heres a photo of one of the flap servos...should it be sticking out like it is? or should it be flush with the wing surface?
#2 does the tail wheel look right? not know what the whole assembly is suppose to look like, just want to make sure...not sure what that one arm by itself is for.

      Hello TS,
#1 The servo is normally flush
#2 Tail wheel looks normal but the arm on the servo is incorrect being 90 degrees to the left. It should be centered, pointed directly back at the tailgear strut. I would be inclined to believe that possibly the servo gears have been stripped. That arm is what steers the rear strut when it is extended down.
      Best regards,

Parts for that bird are still available, here's the Motion link.

The servo doing the tail wheel steering is the 25g metal gear one.

If your retracts are questionable I would upgrade to the all metal.

No go on the Dixie Darling,...the noseart they had wasnt quite what I wanted..so now Im going with Busty Angel II
got my Beacon filler on the way from Motion, along with the spare parts I needed..so hopefully this project will get going a little quicker.

got all my spare parts I needed from Motion ,along with a jar of the Beacon foam finish...got one coat of it on the plane so far..filling in all the panel lines as well as the fixed damaged areas. the 8oz jar is almost gone, so had to order a second one to do the second coat. does this stuff not dry hard? I put it on last night, and its still rather soft, which will make it impossible to sand smooth.

sure wish I had read the reviews on this Beacon crap...sounds like others have the same result...drys to a Elmers glue hardness...now Ive got an entire 1700mm size plane that I have to go back and peel all this crap off.
