There has been alot of building/work on the new P-38L by FlightLine. Lets share pictures and videos your new P-38!

I'm in the process of assembly. I decided to apply decals to start with thinking it will be easier to handle and position the plane parts for decal application. Also going to apply a coat of Minwax before assembly.

I was a little let down on the quality of the surface finish. Yes, it's a foamy...it's the silver finish version. But out of all the planes i've purchased in the last 3 years(to include other silver finish), this model is a solid last place as far as the appearance of the surface finish.

I almost decided to refinish/paint it. But talked myself out of doing that.(next winter project?:) I'm so anxious to finish the build and get her in the air!!

wow ,that is pretty bad..mines not perfect by any means..but not that bad. certainly a plane worthy of a good refinish though..my paint apps on the bottom were horrible..looks like they airbrushed it next to someone using a table sander.

Geez Lon, that plane has more wrinkles than I do!
That one may be a fiber glass project similar to what RC Geek did to his FMS Mustang, definitely a winter project.
I'm wondering what the heck, maybe Aros and Alpha will chime in on this

I have been under the weather myself and have not even unpacked mine yet. I hope I do not find all the wrinkles Lon has. Grossman, what is the RCG reference for the Mustang you mentioned.

Unhappy? I love the plane, just a little let down as far as the finish. About 3 weeks ago, I was asked to bring my new FW F86 80mm for "show and tell" at our monthly club meeting. I did, and received alot of compliments and questions on it, to include comments on how well the finish was on it for a "foamy" plane. This plane is a great looker too, but i'm positive i wouldn't get any positive comments about the finish as i did on the F-86.
I'm in the process of balancing the props now, then check the CG on her. She looks great!(just don't get real close to inspect the finish)

After seeing your photos, I'm glad I didn't preorder, because it sure appears to be a worse finish than even my "cheapy" foamies.

I just finished un-boxing mine (silver) and not very pleased with the finish either. Looks like the mold was too hot and caused the foam to bead. The obvious solution is to sand and repaint. No going to do this though. The other option is to return.

As long as you're happy Lon, then its good, check out the video that RC Geek did on resurfacing his FMS p51, might be something to consider.

                            No i haven't:(
Between work and the weather we've been having. No chance at all. Earlier this week, when weather was good I was out of town with work...dang. Heck, yesterday after work I thought even with the wind, i would at least taxi in the drive way. Carried it up from downstairs and out the garage, and it started raining!! Dang, so at least took a couple pictures.

Looks great Lon! The finish looks good in the pics, until you zoom in. I can understand your disappointment.
But with that said, the 63" wingspan on that thing has GOT to be pretty majestic sitting in your garage!

                              Good luck on the maiden!

Builds are looking great! I was out at the field a couple weeks ago with Alpha and Bajora and got some nice shots of both the silver and green P-38s. They look so great in the air and on the ramp!

Capt. Crunch...Thanks. Yes, it evens looks good sitting in the garage. I'm very happy with the plane's build and results. I just can't bring myself to maiden in 15+ mph 39F temps....my time will come.

I hear you Lon, I'm just watching what the wind is doing today. If its blowing at all here, its worse at the field. They were talking 45 mph gusts, which is a breeze around here, but a bit too much for a maiden flight. I don't usually fly in anything above 15 mph just because of the gusts.
