Freewing / FMS / E-Flite Warbirds with wingspan 1100-1200mm hand launch?

Hi!

We have a grass runway with no golf quality. Planes like the Flightline FW190 A V2, the Bearcat or SeaFury with wingspan around 1100-1200 have no chance to start from ground with the gears.
Have someone here planes in this size and hand launch it? And belly landings? Is the power and size of this planes such that you don't have to be a spear thrower?

Yes, you can hand launch this size. Find the best throwing method that works for you. Personally I like the underhand launch with auto level on.

I hand launch the Maule on floats and it is about that size. With the floats it is a lot more awkward than the planes you mentioned. You want a good throw. Trying to throw it too hard is just going to bury the plane.

belly landings make an you’ll want to invest in spare props but shouldn’t be any big issue

Wings level. Slight maybe 30° up angle. And strong enough to get the plane moving but not so fast you lose control.

I started hand launching slope soaring planes as my introduction to rc flying years ago. But powered warbirds, it was an 800mm series warbird, a Hawker Typhoon . Small EDFs. The Flightline Dora 850mm. And then 1100 and 1200s. Anything that I throw, I usually have an auto level gyro on, except the Dora 850mm. A nice slightly above the horizon toss with 3/4 throttle or slightly under, combined with a little right aileron gets it flying. Don't try to throw any plane too hard or too steep, or not hard enough. Full throttle is generally too much with prop planes. A gyro is great insurance for the handlaunch.
