  • Shear Pin Replacement on the F4U 1600 Corsair

Today the shear pin on my Corsair broke. Take off was fin but I noticed that the gear would not retract all the way. When I landed I noticed that it was twisted some. Thinking that it was just loose moved to get in place to tighten up the set screw and it broke. I had to take the retract apart to complete remove the gear. This pin not like any others I have seen. It has a hole drilled in the middle obviously creating an intentional weak/break point. there is a hole in the bottom that holds in place in the retract motor. So this in not a simple go make one problem. When I looked on line, appears that Motion doesn't sell them and some have told me I have to purchase the entire retract motor just to get this part. I hope this is not the case. Anyone else have this problem and what was your solution. Click image for larger version
