  • Propeller Mod. E-flite P-47

I just purchased the RocHobby Strega/Voodoo prop in hopes of putting it on my E-Flite P-47. I have read that a couple of people have done this mod with great success. I am relatively new to modifying my planes. If you have done this modification, could you tell me how you fit the prop to the plane? Did you drill the prop or did change the prop adapter/collet? If you changes the adapter, could you please tell me which one you used?

    Thanks!

First, you are going to make a change to the power system, so you should have a Watt meter.
Next, which P-47, the 19" or the 42"? I'm guessing the 42", as the Voodoo is also 42". You are going to a much larger prop, which will pull a lot more power from the motor, so, again, Watt meter. The motor may handle the additional current, but the ESC may not.

As for mounting it, I would use a reamer to enlarge the hole in the prop to match the collet on the P-47 motor (assuming it is smaller than center hole in the P-47 prop). Then, re-balance the prop, so it doesn't vibrate.

WintrSol is correct. You are going to want to upgrade the ESC to at least a 45A. A reamer is the best tool for the job, but if you don't have one, a drill will do fine, so long as you have a good grip and steady hand.

Yes, I am referring to the 42", WintrSol. Thanks for the advice guys. I will go and pick myself up a reamer this evening. I did buy the E-Flite 40A ESC, as I am only planning on using 3s batteries for the time-being and it was on sale at my local HS. This is the size of the ESC on the E-Flite 1.2 m P-51, which uses the same prop.
