  • Dynam decals, specifically Bf109.

    Hi all,
Just received my second Bf109 from Dynam. The first one I completely stripped paint and decals from using acetone. For the most part, Dynam foam doesn't care about acetone but there were a couple of places on the fuselage where it disfigured it. I think the acetone interacted with the glue that holds the two halves of the fuse together. So on my second 109, I would like to be able to remove just the decals. My plan is to then sand everything down, Minwax coat it several times, then paint it with latex. One will be Hartmann's Black Tulip and one will be Marseille's Yellow 14 after I turn it into an F-4 model with no cannon bumps on the fuse, trop air filter, etc. I know there are other differences, but that's as far as I want to go with it.

This is my third Dynam plane, the first was the Hurricane. What I really liked about that plane is the decals were provided but not put on. I wish manufacturers would do that more often. Or even leave the plaint completely in the white.

Anyway, I have watched some videos about using the 'ice cube method' to remove decals.

Will this work or is there a better method to do this? I really don't want to go through the entire strip of the model.

Thanks in advance for any ideas anyone has.
    Andy
