  • TiredIronGRB's FMS P-39 rebuild

I got this P-39 from a club member that had crashed it several times and had gave up on it.

The nose was so weak from impacts I used the lid from a Testors spray paint can to reinforce it.

The nose gear mount was pretty broken up so I used plywood to reinforce it.

After a lot of sanding and patching she doesn't look too bad...not perfect but at least solid and will live to fly again.

Thanks, I really love building these...much easier than the full scale military vehicles I used to restore (Foam is Light!).

That is truly impressive. I really like the green camo scheme and the shark mouth. Very nice work! Have you flown it yet? I've been looking at the FMS Hell's Bells version, but haven't gotten it yet.

Nice work! Looks like a whole new plane! I've been looking over Hells Bells and have been considering a few mods as well like split flaps and correcting the gear stance. Just need the time to get around to it..

Great job Tired Iron, good idea about the spray can top, wouldn't have thought of that but its a great idea now that you mention it.

I was looking at the nose of my P 40 and it occurred to me that what it needs is a ring that would fit at the end of the fuse, it would look like an over sized washer and just attach to the front, maybe pins and glue to attach it. It would add to the strength of the nose.
