    Have used this in the past and it yielding a bright finish. Recently used it again on another plane but it came out with a very dull almost chalky finish. What did I do wrong?

    Did you use the water based one? Did you shake and stir the heck out of the can before using? I believe there is an oil based one. It doesn't end up looking as good.

    PS. MinWax also makes tinted wood stain. If you get the ones that are "semi-transparent", those don't work as well for foam models. You need crystal clear, water based. They make a lot of products, many of which are "stains" for wood.

      Humidity or cold will do that.
