I have had some planes that need rudder on take off especially biplanes but never a foamy, especially a top wing. In the air it seems ok on takeoff a good 3/4 rudder is required. is this a common issue with these timbers....Seems all is centred and ship shape but that take off is odd?

That's fairly normal for a high wing tail dragger and even low wing tail dragger. Sounds to me like you are applying too much power, too soon when taking off. The angle on the motor, along with the torque will tend to make the plane veer off to one side, especially if you're trying to get off the ground quickly. Try a more gradual increase in speed. Also, keeping UP elevator will keep the tail more planted on the ground until the plane has some air speed for the rudder to work better will allow the steering tail wheel to help counter the motor angle and torque. Know when that speed is so you can neutralize the elevator and NOT lift off too abruptly and stall.
If you ever get into warbirds, this experience will come in handy as tail dragger warbirds can veer off to one side more aggressively.

Ah yes, I remember the noodle pattern throttle advancement with the Pandoras. Bending that stick to one side like a wet noodle
Once in the air they're fine, but that torque on take off is always fun. If it's just too much, you can use a small (very small) shim to help counter act it as well.
