I couldn't resist as I'm still working on my Jerry Bates Boeing 90" F4B-4. Need to finish it. As I have been flying up a storm with my other planes I thought a little P-12 would be fun, only 43.5" but bi-planes of this era haven't been produced until now. I'd like to see Curtiss F11-c Goshawk and a Grumman F-3-F. I'll let you know how build/flying goes when it arrives. Supposed to be here next week. I plan to get it in the air asap.

My P-12 arrived today and after taking it out of the box and laying out the parts I must say this is a very good looking plane. Lots of scale features. Took less than an hour to assemble (really just bolt together). Nice touch with Allen head bolts and screws. The landing gear and main cabanes are metal and alighn perfect. The wheels are around 3 3/8" in diameter and should handle well on our grass field. The recommended battery fits well but is a bit tight to put the battery strap on. Not a major problem just my fingers don't work like they used too. Instructions are good also. With battery in it balances a little nose down, perfect at the 75mm setting. Setting up the radio now so maybe the test flight tomorrow. A very nice wooden, painted propellor is included also with prop decals. Motion and Chris Wolfe have done a fine job.
A few scale details I will do after flying season is over: detail engine, add machine guns in the gun cavity, weather it (most planes show a little use) Overall a very detailed model.
Davegee - this is a model you would enjoy, if it flys as good as it looks then this will be in the same quality as the Flight Line products.

Better get on there list Motion says it's sold out. Lots of scale details OEM, corrugations on the tail surfaces, radial eng has high detail just needs scaled out, plug wires, paint etc. Dan could re-paint the pilot into an oil smeared faced pilot. Scale droppable gas tank, LOL

I think I have officially completed the design, building, and tests of the 110 gallon drop tank. They have successfully done a drop from altitude from the P-51 without damage. They are all painted up now, scale air and fuel lines (removable) are installed, and someday if I hang up HHH for display, it is all set. I don't know if I'll fly with these tanks again, but using the OEM 75 gallon tanks and the 500# bombs that I printed up are a hoot! I put lawn sprinkler pink flags in the field adjacent to the runway to drop the bombs and see how close I can get!
The P-12 is definitely on my radar for the next project. I"ll get my name on the list since you are aware that they are sold out. That is good news, as it is popular with modelers and must fly pretty well, too. It will fly well from my rough and tumble runway that I use.
Appreciate any comments you post on your impressions of the the new model, and especially what you think of it when it flies. I've watched the videos on MRC, and it's right down my alley for now.

I had a P-6E Hawk that I flew a ton and eventually gave it to an aviation museum. I think it is probably still around. One of the best flying planes I have flown, and some of the most fun I have had flying RC!

I bought the recommended battery 4s-2200-45c. Fits perfect and balances slightly nose down at the 75-78mm c/g. For a 1100mm plane this has excellent scale details. enclosed pics

Great! I have been writing down things I need to order in regard to buying one of these airplanes. I have one plug that connects the XT60 plug on the battery to the EC3 plug on my S1100 Spektrum charger. I think that will work. I tried a test run on another battery similar to what you have in your photo. I'll order one of those batteries too and then I should be all set. What a classic looking airplane! I've been running through some pics and history online and this model is really a great tribute to legendary airplanes like the Boeing P-12E.

I also ordered a lemon 6ch rec (15.00) because I have always flown Futaba until getting the new Spektrum I never used gyros or anything. I haven't turn on the safe or anything on my Spektrum E-Flite planes so don't know any better. These cheap lemon rec are working great on my sport models. I like the Navy F4B-4 and maybe Motion will offer it. Taking my time setting up radio functions and love the talking features, must be AI but I didn't know it would cuss back at me when I make a stupid flying mistake in the air. LOL
Rain forecasted for the next several days so test flight will be next week. Haven't read of anyone flying one yet except Motions report.

Are you thinking about a working tailhook for the P-12E? Did they put a tailhook on them or was that just for the Navy planes?
One thing I would add eventually are some wires for the wings. Not too complicated, I think that wouldn't be hard to add They seem to be mounted in pairs.
I read that they mounted one or two .30 caliber guns in the recessed panels in front of the pilot, covered with a wood piece somehow. I wonder if any period photos exist of these to help modelers make them??

No tailhook but the navy version had them. I have plenty of photo's for this and the F4B3&4 that I had searched for my Bates 90". I can post pics if needed. The F4B-3 had a 50cal. on left and 30cal. on right. Telescopic gunsight went thru center of windshield. Navy birds had a bathtub looking drop tank. Believe they had bombs under lower wing. All sorts of scale features can be added if one so wishes.
Note to the reluctant modeler- While adjusting my control functions with my new Spektrum 8+ I pushed the wrong function and not removing the prop tonight (had it removed last night at first set-up) it started at full power and flew off the workbench flying into the concrete wall. Only damage was a nice broken prop. I really got lucky, could have been worse. So, I can report it flew straight and level for 8 feet for the initial flight. Just ordered two new props.

Whew! I've been there once when the airplane started after me in my workshop! I dodged it to fight another day. Glad you're in one piece and well and the airplane is more or less undamaged. We expect to lose props in various ways...
I bought the P-12 last night online. Looking forward to getting it in a week or so.

Great News on your purchase. A little smaller than what your used to flying but being a biplane, it projects a larger footprint. I think you're going to like it and so many scale details can be added.
The metal landing gear and metal cabanes added a lot of strength and helped cause less damage from the concrete wall. The motor has a lot of power. Took off like a catapult launch.

Let's stay in touch on possible scale improvements. For instance, the real ones had some reinforcing cables as guy wires on the wings, maybe on the tail, too. Have to research that but that was an observation I had seeing some pics on the internet last night. Should be fun! One of my favorites I flew a ton was a P-6E Hawk, one of the best flying prop planes I ever owned. Eventually donated it to a museum. It's probably still around somewhere. But this one will be very coo and easy to find a spot for in my workshop for storage inbetween "missions."

My line up of military fighters to give you a size comparison. The Wildcat and P-12 are the same wingspan and texting with Chris Wolfe I said the wildcat gear would fit perfect in a Grumman F-3-F of this size. I have 100+flights on it and the gear has held up. Just my .02. Think your going to like it.

I think this is just a very cool and classic airplane! I ordered a used book online today about the P-12E so maybe there will be some good material in there that will help us detail our models. I'll let you know when it comes and post any good photos that will help detail the models.
