After checking out the new V3 Corsair, I've decided to wait for V4. My beef? From the info I've gathered the landing gear just simply sucks for durability, and the tail wheel shaft made out of hard plastic and don't even retract. If I'm going to spend that kind of money, it needs to be better than that. So I checked out what it what take to up grade this issue. If this works I may just purchase V3 Corsair any way and spend the money to up grade the gear. The main gear up grade is a no brainer, Its the tail wheel up grade I'm hoping somebody can help me with. Can I take the V7 Mustang tail wheel retract system, and the rear landing gear mounting tray and incorporate it into the V3 Corsair. I don't care about the sequencing doors, Just want a retractable tail gear. if some one has both planes, measure rear tail area and see if the tray can be made to fit. <smiley image="smiley_good.gif"/>

Re: 4FU Corsair V3
Hi Fly Boy. I was just thinking the same thing. As far as the main gear goes they say they have upgraded them so they wont fold under during landings. Watch the second video on the Blue Corsair page. But I think the tail wheel needs to be retractable like the 1700mm is. I have 2 intact retractable tail wheels and housings from crashed p51s V6 and V7 and was thinking the same thing as you. But I don't have a Corsair to try it on. If you look at the pictures of the tails of both planes the P51 sits much closer to the ground and the strut is shorter than the F4U. Thinking the tail might scrape the ground on the Corsair. Also think that the 1700mm one might be to big for the 1400 fuselage. Hope this helps.
I asked Motion about a possible V4 and they said not at this time...Tootall505 (Chris).

Re: 4FU Corsair V3
Thanks for the reply. As soon as I saw the V3 Corsair with the already upgraded main landing gear, I couldn't wait to purchase. WOW what a Beautiful aircraft. The build went super smooth. The maiden flight was spectacular, required very little trimming, then was performing little aerobatic stuff to get a feel for her. By flight 3 the CG ended up at 95mm. At that point the F4U V3 Corsair really came to life in the aerobatic department. What I love the most is that darn whistling sound it makes in a full power dive, OUTSTANDING! As far as the tail wheel, I broke it off the first time I tried to land. 110mm CG puts the plane on the tail heavy side of things. So my first landing attempt was not the greatest. Main gear held up very well. But now that I'm the proud owner of both the V7 P51 Mustang and the V3 Corsair, and I love to engineer upgrades into my models, I do believe there is room to build in retractable tail gear, NO PROBLEM! And your right it will require a taller wheel shaft than the stock P51 has. I know for sure the landing gear tray can be made to fit from the P51, or practically any gear tray, plenty of room. Right now tho I'm having way to much fun just flying the Corsair and nobody at the flying field has even noticed the rear gear don't retract. My current band aid for the tail wheel was simple, and took 5 minutes to fix. I just simply drilled out up thru the center of the wheel fork, then drilled a hole up thru the main shaft and connected the broken pieces back together with an extra screw that came with the plane assisted with some CA glue taboot. I'm going to save installing retractable tail gear for my next winter down time project, for patients and carful thot is going to be key. Re: 4FU Corsair V3
I did think of that, But NP charges so much for shipping, I have 3 planes in my Hanger from NP. They do sell an OK product if your into up grading landing gear right out of the box, and your a rookie pilot. There cheep air craft, so you don't lose a whole lot when crash happens. Thanks tho, But after having the Motion RC experience, I wont be shopping any wear else. Have you ever tried to get customer support from NP, Good luck with that. Been there, wont be doing that again. The customer support at MRC is OUTSTANDING. On Line Chat= OUTSTANDING! Product Quality= OUTSTANDING, Parts availability=OUTSTANDING, Worth the extra buck. After the tail wheel band aid, she's holding up just fine. Plus it gives me something to tinker with in the winter. Thanks to MRC, My flying experience has been enhanced. <smiley image="smiley_grin.gif"/>Pacific NW Flyer

Re: 4FU Corsair V3
I received my F4U Corsair V3 this past winter. The build was great and being my first Warbird I had some questions about balancing so I talked to Motion RC and they gave me some good tips but I see some people seem to think the 110mm balance point is wrong and I see you moved it to 95mm. I put mine at 110mm on a great planes cg machine but had to move the battery into the cockpit area to balance slightly nose heavy gear up. With the battery in the pocket at 110mm it seemed to nose heavy. What did you do to balance your plane at 95mm. I'm using a 4s 3000 30c battery. I'm waiting for winter to leave Chicago so I can maiden my plane. Thanks for any help.

Re: 4FU Corsair V3
Balancing the v3 Corsair is simple. The 110 cg is ok. Not wrong by no means. I live in the windy area of the pacific NW so a little extra nose weight mandatory for wind penetration. I'm using a home made balancer. Its not perfect but it works. I took a small piece of tape and marked the 110 cg point. Installed my Admiral 40c 4000 mah batt in the pocket. batt weight I believe is 13.9 ounces. added tail weight with tape weights until a level bal achieved. U can bal at 95 or 100mm by simply putting the balancer on those marks. add or remove weight accordingly. Tape weights are awesome. They fit anywhere. Need more nose weight? no problem. But I also have all my electrical as far aft as possible as well. My FMS P51 loves the 105-110mm cg. Flys and lands perfect. In fact all that was required for slightly nose heavy plane on that one was just install the batt in its place. The admiral 40c 4000mah is perfect for that one. I've been reading tho that all the V3 Corsairs are balancing a little different than others. Some fly perfect at 110cg, others don't. Why I'm not sure. Mine seems to like 95mm. Great wind penetration, and landings are smooth. Hope this helps.Pacific NW Flyer
