That is nice! I would hate to have to wait for months to fly it, though. The anticipation would kill me.

Alpha.......Living in upstate NY winters is when it tests my resolve as to why I haven't moved out to where you guys are :-/
TS........Many thanx and what is even cooler is my last name being Brown so I know all so well about Snoop and his fetish :p
Dan........I've thought about it but am not that ambitious. My mods on true warbird designs keeps me pretty busy. ;)Warbird Charlie

"WOW" That is amazing what you have built there. You are a true craftsman of this hobby! Outstanding, especially building this from dollar foam and, it's hand made to boot. Most people don't have the patience that goes into building from a plan or scratch build from pieces of something. It's nice of you to share such a cool aircraft on Hobby squawk. Merry Christmas, MattOriginally posted by OV10 View PostOK pilots, I have become more or less a self proclaimed convert and addict to foam warbird ARF's. Of the 25 in the fleet I do have 5 balsa ARF's but nothing that has been built from a kit or scratch since I got back into this almost 5 years ago. Well a member in my club who is really into the FliteTest foam board planes inspired me to do a scratch build using the Dollar Tree foam board. Have been looking for a 1/8 scale DR-1 without any luck so thus the task to get back to a little ol' school of scratch building in a new age material. Just finished the final assembly(36 inch span) whereas it only needs the aileron controls connected and a paint job. Looking to have it ready for Show N Tell in January. I'll follow up with more pics when the paint has been done.
Best Regards,

RT........I considered doing the trailing edge scallops but just got lazy because I didn't want to deal with the repair of the foam tear out.
Looks to be from the same plans by Steve Shumate except you went with the scale top wing aileron only.Warbird Charlie

Carbon fiber strips or tubesOriginally posted by Grossman56 View PostI think this plane is so cool! As a novice when it comes to building, I'm curious, what do you use for reinforcement?

Hi Guys
Great job on the DR-1 I am starting the build of the flitetest plans FT MINI DR1 (FULL SIZE) . This is the 24 " wing I had it blown up to 36" to start off with. I may put ailerons on this one though. I have built quite a few of their models and the use of dollar tree foam. Who would ever thought that this would work.
