  • Older FMS 1400 T-28 front gear bay removal?

I am going to replace the nose gear in my older FMS T-28. I'm tired of bending it back into shape every time I hit a clump of grass on landing.

Anyone here know how to remove the nose gear bay?

The new nose gear mount is slightly different so you will want to remove the old bay and install a new one. I'm guessing you already figured this out - hence your question.

The bay should be held in by some contact cement. Contact cement is sticky but always remains pliable so you should be able to remove it. You may have to cut around the edges (between the foam and landing gear bay) with a very thin knife so you don't remove any foam. You could also cut the bay and remove it in pieces (use safety glasses). There is likely only a few spots of glue strategically located.

Thanks Tom, That's the info I needed.

My new gear and gear bay came Friday, just a couple days after I ordered it, from some place up in IL;-)

Now I can repair the weak nose gear and get my Trojan back in the air.
