  • FMS BF109f ramblings

Just a note to report how much I like the FMS 109f 1400mm, with added gyro. I detailed panel lines with fine marker pen, then added some exhaust trails, and gun firing stains, followed by a spray coat over whole plane (except canopy!) with clear flat (this removes the shiny appearance from plastic parts such as nose cone). Plane looks so good I wanted to hang it in the bedroom, but was a no go with base commander (read wife) but it looks that good.
I have flown it 8 times now and each flight unlike the other on take offs...right rudder needed each time, but gyro handles keeping the plane level. Landings are great fun with again the gyro keeping things level with me providing reduced power until touchdowns. Once in the air it is so much fun to fly with power to spare for my favorite maneuvers as I try to fly scale. It's like I'm putting on my own air show. I've never seen a 109 in person so this is as close as I can get. The pictures attached are from Motion RC. Love their pics and movies of the 109, and the Super Corsair I also purchased some time ago...Thanks for providing an old dude space to say thanks for the fine support and products...

    Hi Dogma67

Thanks for starting this thread this plane really deserves attention and some spot light. I have the winter color scheme which was discontinued but looks awesome though. By putting a gyro in this plane really makes this plane sting know. Take off and landings are tricky at best with out it. Flying this plane is as smooth as silk and just has that awe factor in the air. I hope you get allot of flights on this plane!

Hi Dogma 67, welcome to the forum first of all!
That's a great looking bird alright and glad to hear the report on the gyro as I don't recall reading where anyone has used one on the Bf109. Such a cool plane, but, like my Spitfire, I can bet its a challenge to not drag a wing on landing. Any suggestions on this?

Hello Pilot, Yes, that is a fantastic airplane. It's also, very aerobatic as well. I enjoy the tight turns this one can carve through the air. Also it's very capable of slow flight, without tipping over and, going out of control. I also found landing, you can set the flaps, this bird will float her way down to a soft landing. I fly mine with a 3300mah, it gives me a good 5 minute flight without any worry of lost power. I have the camouflage version; I want the brown one- one of these days; I'll just have to break out the piggy bank. Thank you for the post, your taste is airplanes is good. These are the best of the best, performance, style and durability. The landing gear do takes some maintenance though. You'll have to pull them out of the wing, slightly. Tighten the pivot holes Allan screws inside the trunion that hold the struts. That way, they stay tight and, your ready to fly another day. Cheers Matt

Love my 109, I have a gyro on the rudder only but its dialed in so low it's not doing much. I have found you need to go VERY slow with the throttle and use allot of rt rudder on take off. Also have given up on the flaps as it tends to make the ele too sensitive for my taste, the plane will fly crazy slow so the flaps are not really needed. I got the winter scheme and did a full repaint. She is a *****cat in the air but can be a tiger on the ground if you don't follow the "rules" Make me a better pilot for sure. still getting used to her.
