  • E-flite UMX Cessna 182

Received mine today. What a fun micro! I'm a sucker for scale, military or civilian. The Cessna company is a bulldog when it comes to protecting their name and you have to have a quality scale model for them to officially license the product and they have with this one. The UMX micros are a fantastic way for me to be able to fly without leaving my driveway. When I don't have the time or desire to pack up my big birds and drive the miles to the nearest flying location, it's really sweet to have the option to get your "stick fix" in with these micros. I especially love the AS3X that comes standard with these micros these days to help dampen the effects of the wind that always seems to be imminent (This one has SAFE mode as well for those newer to the hobby...Just a flick of the gear switch).

Takes a 2S 200-280 mAh LiPo...I bought a 200 mAh with the plane because the 280 was out of stock (but picked one up at the LHS). Velcro's right in the battery compartment under the fuselage and CG's perfect. Takeoff was a breeze with the steerable nose wheel and she was climbing out in a very scale-like manner. The AS3X works to keep her extra clean and crisp in the air for a very scale appearance. Nice scale speed, tracks great, looks great. Nice coordinated turns with rudder just like the real thing. Landing is pretty much a non-event. Relax the power and let her gently descend on the glide slope...Keep just a sliver of power on for the flare for a perfect scale landing or touch-and-go.

It's a winner as is but for it to have been a complete and total rock star, flaps and LEDs would have sent it out of the stratosphere but admittedly that's just more icing on an already nice cake. Flaps certainly aren't necessary as she has a quick takeoff roll and slow landings as is but I'm a scale geek so flaps are always a plus in my book. The motor has a slight buzz to it, to the point that I thought it was a brushed motor but it's not too noisy at all. Just trying to be impartial and nit pick and that really is nit picky, lol.

While maybe not quite as exciting and fun as the E-flite UMX Pitts (if you never had one, go get one, they are ridiculously fun to fly!) the UMX Cessna is a fantastic micro if you love the real plane and enjoy smooth scale flying like I do.

Nice Todd! I have had my eye on this one and saw it for the first time at the AMA Expo West a few weeks back. I also am a sucker for GA models ... they are really under-represented IMO.

Thanks Jon! I totally agree. As much as I am a warbird nut, I too think GA models are under-represented. Would love to see some Cirrus aircraft like the SR22 or SR20, the Beechcraft Baron G58 and King Air...The Diamond DA42 would be slick...Man I could go on and on, lol.
