FMS 800mm Warbirds

I am gonna be in the market again soon for my third plane , love the FMS 800mm War birds . Will the gear hold up on grass ?? I don't have the option of a paved runway . BTW I only buy from Motion !!!!! If the gear doesn't seem to hold up can someone tell me one that will .

The main wheels on my F6F Hellcat 750 mm (FMS) were way too small for grass. I put some DU-BRO 2.5" Micro Sport Wheels on it and they fit the axle with a little drilling and work fine. However, it looks kind of clowny. Hope this helps.
Ask MotionRC what the wheel diameter of your choice of plane will be. Less than 2" would be difficult, unless the grass is cut very low.

Hand launch, and belly land.

Looks much more scale in the air, and no drag from the wheels hanging down. The P-51 in particular, is very easy to do a flap mod. This slows her down for a nice flare, and a gentle plop-n-slide grass landing. I also use flaperons on the Corsair and FW-190, works well, but not as good as "real" flaps...

I agree, if looking to fly the 800mm warbirds off grass, hand-launching may be the way to go if you are concerned about the gear holding. Unless your grass is like a putting surface.

I fly off a paved runway and have not experienced an issue on any of the 800mm series landing gear perse'. It can get a bit iffy if I catch a cross-wind on landing and get pushed into the grassy area lining the runway.
I have had experiences where the gear mounting plate would begin to loosen/seperate at the connection point under the wing. Of course a bit of CA and Kicker resolves that issue but, still a pain.

I have a "near" putting green strip behind my house that I have minor issues getting larger birds up from and not flipping over on landing. Grass is at about 1.5 inches. I have not tried an 800mm plane on it because based on the larger birds, I may have issues. For fixed gear warbirds, I hand toss and belly land. They look and fly sooo much better without that gear hangng down, in my own opinion of course.

Indeed.....

The 800mm Corsair and especially the A1-Skyraider, both of which look awesome in the pits with all their armament under the wings fly sooooo much better and stable without all that in the air. Some of the others with a center mounted drop-tank/bomb can get away with it in the air.
