Hello. Just received and assembled my FMS 800mm P-47 model. The directions are in broken English, and incomplete at best. I have gotten to the step where I am connecting electronics, but nowhere in the directions is connecting the three engine leads mentioned. There is only a note on p10 that says "Disassemble the motor" using two screw holes on the sides of the fuselage, but no explanation as to why the motor should be disassembled, how it might come out or how it might go back in. In front, the cowling is firmly glued to the fuselage. No chance it is coming out the back. I'm staring at an ESC with three engine leads and nowhere to connect them. My next option is to cut into the fuselage and find these engine connectors. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Ben

Look at the spare cowl, and you'll see how it should come off; careful pressure around the edges should release it. Then glue it back; I prefer canopy glue for this kind of joint, since it is flexible enough to be removable when needed.
EDIT: looking at the photos, you may be able to extract the motor without disturbing the cowl. Look closely at the motor mount, and you will see screws on the left and right sides. There should be small holes in the fuse that line up with these screws, so you can insert a screwdriver and loosen them. My P40 had a mount like this, and I couldn't get those screws tight enough with the tiny screwdriver that fit those holes, so I replaced them with hex-head screws, so I could use a small Allen wrench, instead. -

Thanks. I was able to pry the cowl and engine cover off with a fair amount of trouble to access the engine wires. Got lucky on the first try with the three engine connectors, so threaded it back through and glued everything back without having to actually remove the motor. Looks OK, so I'll give it a first flight this weekend.<smiley image="smiley_beam.gif"/>Comment
