Hey Matt hope all is well. I've been flying for a while now and what I see in most planes is that they lack speed and power. Does it have vertical power out of the box, yes it does but it's not enough. I'm not a 3D pilot so I'm after speed and power for scale aerobatics. This will be my first hard conversion to 6s in a foamy but it's not going to be that difficult. All the parts and plane came in the mail today so after work and a trip to the hobby store to get some prop adaptors I will start the build and document and take pics of what I'm doing so other can enjoy the same power I'm after. I have a couple different motors to try so it's going to be an experiment so we will see how it goes.. KrisOriginally posted by starcop View PostHowdy Z34, Cool, let us know how this works out. I often get customers who ask; if this type of thing can be done? I'm sure, with a 3000mah 6S or something- not too heavy, might give that some monster power. Enjoy, Matt

Very cool, this will come in handy to see the final outcome. Thank you! MattOriginally posted by Z34 View Post

Well matt at first glance at the new parts there are going to be some mods taking place but it is going to work. Might take me a couple days to get it finished with cutting some new aluminum pieces but I will document and photo everything so people can see the steps.Originally posted by starcop View Post

Matt,
well it wasnt as hard as I was thinking to get the ball rolling. What I did was this:
Motor - t-28 v4 motor 4258-650kv
I chose to go with this motor because in the t28 v4 manual it states that the upgraded motor can take 4s 5s or 6s.
Esc- fms 85amp
I chose the 85amp because I'm only running 6s 2500mah 30c ( math: 2.5x30=75amp) 2.5 for 2500mah x 30 (c rating on lipo) gives me a little wiggle room so I don't burn anything up. I have a amp meter I'm going to run on the bench before any flying takes place but we should be good to go.
Lipo - Venum 6s 22.2v 2500mah 30c
I chose this pack because of the similarities with the called out admiral 2500mah 4s pack and its warranty. The 6s is roughly 4oz heavier and a slight height difference. Fits great in battery compartment without the need of removing any foam. Hatch latches properly.
In the pictures you can see that I used the standard t28 prop 13/9 3 blade which fits on the stock motor shaft that was delivered with the motor. Future plans include Cnc machining a new motor mount and motor shaft to fit a 2 blade 14/8 (gas prop) apc. For now flying the 13/9 will do for testing. I did have to drill new motor mounting holes in the motor mount for the new motor to fit which wasn't to bad and works for now when on budget. Once again future plans include cnc machining new motor mount. Used 5.32 drill bit to fit 4mm screws for motor.
First glance at the new 3bladed prop with new motor you can hardly tell the difference besides the spinner isn't on there which I will be replacing when I get the two bladed prop on. I believe this bad boy is going to cruise pretty fast with the 6s power system. I will upgrade pictures and steps as they become available, all the way up to maiden flight as 6s instead of 4s. I will post a video of the flight. Hope this helps anyone that is trying to convert. Any questions feel free to message me anytime. Hope all is well

Hello Z34,
Hate to be the wet blanket on your fire of enthusiasm for a power upgrade mod but the info in the T-28 v4 manual is not correct.
The motor that is in the T-28 is the very same one designed for and used in the P-40B and it is not rated for anything above 18V.
Go to this thread that I established about 6 weeks ago posting all of FMS motor data sheets.
https://www.hobbysquawk.com/forum/el...f-spread-sheet
You will see that the 4258-650kV is only rated for a max of 18V and 60A.
The motor that you really want for 6S is the 4258-550kV. It has a proven track record by many others(and documented on RCG) that used it to juice up the FMS 1450 v8 P-51.
You will see that this motor has a 22V rating at 70A.
With the 650kV on 4S the max RPM's would be 9620 and on 6S at 14430 which is a HUGE delta increase.
What a lot of folks don't understand is that the RPM increase is an exponential increase on the power system requirements.
You need to run the numbers thru a calculator like eCalc in order to determine the demand on the motor for current(amps) requirements to spin that 13x9x3 prop(as shown in your pic) that much faster.
I have been doing power mods and advising others for some time now and what you are attempting to do could prove to most likely burn up a good performing 4S motor.
Best of luck on the direction you elect to take,

The PDF you just linked I have been trying to find for quiet some time.. the local hobby store doesnt even have this info. thank you for your help! And thank you for saving my plane. I will be returning the 4258 650 and getting the 4258-550 rated for 22.2. Motion has them in stock so it shouldn't be long before the new motor comes.Originally posted by OV10 View PostHello Z34,

It's awesome and not very hard to do with the correct parts. Cg is 60mm instead of 80mm per the manual so I was a little nervous on takeoff but I barely had to trim. She screams pretty good. After work today I was going to make a post with links for parts that I used so others can enjoy some power and speed.Originally posted by bradl4648 View PostWow prety mean looking now can not wait to see the flight video I may try this on my extra 300 if you like the outcome !!

Variometer Sensor $49.99- http://www.horizonhobby.com/aircraft...ensor-spma9589
Temperature Sensor $9.99 - http://www.horizonhobby.com/aircraft...ensor-spma9571
total cost - $537.29
The Edge 540 v3 6s conversion is a little on the expensive side but thats what I have put into mine. One could probably shave costs on a different spinner and receiver without the variometer and temperature sensors. I already had all the sensors from a pervious build I did in the past so I already had purchased the sensors years ago. If anyone has any questions about the build just let me know. It was pretty straight forward and easy to do. Cg with lipo all the way back is at 60 mm and flys great with about 4/5 down elevator (nose up) clicks on mine. I am putting a flight video together soon for people to view to see if its something they want to do. I hope this helps anyone trying to covert their FMS sport /3d plane to 6s. Hope all is well

Good selection of parts.........just a little constructive critique on the ESC for future considerations.
The FMS is an OK part but pricy for what it is, a better and less expensive($15 less) option would have been the ZTW. ;)
