Pandora flap servos, wheels and prop Q's?

  • Pandora flap servos, wheels and prop Q's?

    This is my trainer and of course it takes abuse. So I have a couple of Qs myself.

    1) eventually I'd like to add the flaps to this. Can someone recommend which particular servos to purchase that will work with this plane (it reads 9g forward but which actual ones?, which physical size?).

    2) Any other prop that fits other than the stock replacement 11x6 3 blader?

    3) I'd like to replace the 4" foam wheels with 4+" rubber. But what axle size? Catalog shows 3.7mm axle. Any other's work?

    Thanks for any/all advice.

    1) Look at the servo holes in the wing; any servo that will fit will do. I used the Pandora 9G servos, but they are shown as out of stock.
    2) I happen to like the stock prop, as it pulls the plane just fine, and keeps the motor current below the max rating of the ESC. I did replace the ESC with a slightly higher performance 45A version, which squeezes about 10% more out of the system. If you go changing props, be sure you check current draw with a watt meter.
    3) Because I fly from a paved runway, I replaced the hard foam wheels with these: http://www.hobbypartz.com/79p-4011.html. They do well on mowed grass and pavement, so you really don't need anything larger. On several occasions, I've strayed onto the grass surround of our strip, with no issues.

      I happen to have a couple other 11", 3-blade props, a MAS 11x8x3 and an EMP 11x8.5x3. The MAS prop will not fit with the stock spinner, as the hub is much too large, and, not having another spinner that it might fit, I left that prop in the box. But, with a small amount of carving, the EMP will fit the spinner; I just had to carve out the three blade holes a bit. I then tested both the stock prop and the EMP with a freshly charged, 2600mAh 3S battery. Recall that I have a 45A ESC installed, which gives a bit more power with the stock prop. Also, I advance the throttle as one might during takeoff, quickly, but smoothly, not jammed to the max.

      Results:
      stock prop: 355.6W @ 29.7A peak
      EMP prop: 467.8W @ 39.8A peak

      All-up weight with that battery is 3.75lb, so both will do a good job making the plane somewhat aerobatic. I'm going to fly with the EMP next time, just to see what 30% more power feels like with this slow airframe. Hope I don't fly the wings off.
