Parkzone Sport Cub

Greetings Gang,

Lately, I've had my eye on the very cool Parkzone Sport Cub as a new grab-and-go plane.
I thought I might give a shout out here to see if anyone has input on this bird?

Likes/dislikes? Experiences? I'll take it all....

Lumshavok Rocketeer I bought the pnp version do not know how it flew as I modified it from the get go a 30 amp esc metal wing spars different tail wheel drilled a hole in the firewall and in the batt cover as the plane has minimal air flow inside. flying with an apc 10 7 right now a 9 9 works good to as for the plane I let my buddy fly it , the next time I saw him he had one .

I have one completely stock and added the flaps. Love it! Both my boys (12,15) fly it as well. It is good stock, but I can see the potential for the upgrades as well.

I have a BNF that is stock except for the flaps. I love it. I take it every time I fly. The AS3X seems to keep it stable in the wind. The plane looks great and flies great. Despite some of the things I've read about it, my Sport Cub has enough power for me. I may upgrade the esc and prop if I decide to fly it off water. My only gripes are the landing gear fairings that break off easy and my charger which didn't last through 2 full charge cycles.

Thanks for the input. I'm pretty much sold on this plane.

Unfortunately, I was bitten by the recent 4th of July Sale bug and I'll need to re-feed the kitty before I can grab the Sport Cub.

We've heard very positive reviews about the PNP and some mixed reviews about the BNF. Some people don't like the default AS3X settings on the BNF version while others love the default AS3X settings. I've personally not had a chance to fly one. It is on my list (and I will put floats on it). The AS3X can be adjusted on most of the receivers so the AS3X may just need adjustment (again, have not tried this one yet).

Thanks for the input. In hind sight I've decided to hold off on the Sport Cub and try my hand at an EDF Jet. Perhaps beginning with the Seagull and eventually hitting my long range goal of obtaining the awesome Freewing 80mm F-86 EDF Jet when they're back in stock!!

FYI my bud has the BNF and I have the PNP so we can compare the two, his is as steady as a rock flying into the wind the PNP is not.

That is odd that the planes would perform so differently as they are essentially identical save the need to add a TX to one plane and not the other.

Rocketeer the BNF comes with the AS3X also just put a freewing flight design three blade 9 8 prop on mine works OK looks great had to drill out the spinner

I have this plane in the BNF version, And installed the flap servo. I LOVE this plane, As it flies very good. It does not even need flaps, It lands very good without flaps. It has plenty of power and handles nice. I use a 1300 mah batteries (admiral), get an average of 7:30 min. of fly time. I have the Spektrum DX6 set at 50% rudder with aileron mix to help with yaw in turns. I don't fly this at WOT , I take off, after gaining altitude I just back off throttle about half and it flys nice. Give it some throttle does nice loops, very good at inverted flight, rolls, I have fun with this plane. Cut the throttle down to about 1/4, click on flaps at half,( 1 of your 2 position switchs of your choice) And it just floats, ( I cut the throttle to just above Stall speed and have fun testing it.) with a 10 mph wind i did use full flaps just to see what it would do, and it came down floating like it was a real Sportcub. I fly on a grass field, On a hill, So we get wind all the time, I am not a newbie, but have not been flying in 15 years, and first time out this plane was fantastic. ( I was Scared...YEP) I am 59 years old, And still love this hobby, AND the new radios. So far I have 28 flights on this plane and I Love it! The only improvement I did to this plane was to put Black mylar packing tape stripes on bottom of wing to see the top from bottom in the air. Please don't do mods to this plane like bigger motors, carbon fiber wing supports, and any other "improvements" you see on other RC groups websites, You don't need them. This plane is good to go out of the box! just add any decals to make it "yours". I highly encourage any one wanting a great plane to get this one. But please ask THE MOTION RC GUYS on your skill level, As this is a easy plane to fly, Well , maybe , maybe not. Fly Safe .

Len, thanks for that....but I had to laugh. You mentioned you installed flaps & in the same breath recommend the plane not needing them. <smiley image="anim_confused.gif"/>
Is that something you did before ever flying the plane? Only thing I can imagine that makes sense.
But anyway, welcome back to the 'sickness'. It never really goes away, does it? <smiley image="smiley_grin.gif"/>
