Parkzone Stinson SR10 - back in production

I saw today that Parkzone and Horizon Hobby have put the Stinson SR10 back into production and should be available mid May.

When I got back into the hobby two years ago I saw this plane at our field and was bummed to learn it had been discontinued. The big Stinsons are among my favorite full scale planes.

I wish the wingspan was more than 49.5" but that's more than 44" (my minimum) so I'm OK with it.

Anyone here own and fly one? Anything you can tell me about the plane would be good. AT $150 PNP I'll drop a Lemon receiver in it and be ready to go!

I have had one for years and still enjoy flying it. In fact, I liked it so much that when they were closing out on them, I bought a spare just in case something happened to my first one. I wonder if this is a new release, or if they found some old stock in a warehouse, and clearing it out? Seems odd it is only offered in PNP, and no BNF version. Either way, it is a great flying plane.

I don't think they put them back into production per-say. I'd bet they had some in the back of a warehouse somewhere that they didn't know about or something like that. I'd be really surprised if they're new-production and not old-stock.

It'd be nice to hear from Horizon directly on the issue. I think I'll pick one up though. It's a very attractive airplane.

I also have one of these and it's probably the most scale powered/flying plane I own...I love it.

When I got back into the hobby a couple of years ago I really wanted this Stinson but it was discontinued and I was not able to find one,

For whatever reason Horizon Hobby has then for sale again, could be new production or maybe they found a container of there somewhere, don't know, don't care. :)

The plane went together easily although it could have used longer servo leads, it was a little tricky getting things plugged into the receiver but I got it.

I went ahead and did the flap modification, I used a Freewing servo and Foam-Tac to glue it into place. The mod was pretty easy and the plane probably doesn't need flaps but I wanted them.

For a $140 foam airplane I thought it was nice enough. The assembly took three hours which included balancing the plane, adding the flaps and getting the transmitter programmed. I was working in the hangar on it with Sirius XM 80's plane and the rain falling. It was nice and relaxing so I wasn't in any hurry.

She is ready to fly, hopefully tomorrow the weather will be nice and I'll get it out for the maiden flight.

Finally got to maiden the plane last night, six flights total.

It was a bit windy at the field last night, the wind was 8 mph with gusts into the mid teens and variable in the direction it was coming from, it's like it couldn't make up its mind. :)

On the second take off the plane weathervaned into the crosswind and I horsed it off the ground and banked right to avoid overflying the pits, what I should have done was cut the throttle and reset the takeoff. As the plane banked to the right it went inverted then snapped to the left and then snapped again to the right while climbing and descending. This all happened in a matter of seconds and at 5' (or less) above the runway. I don't know how I saved the plane but I did. This somewhat happened again on the fourth take off, one thing is for sure, don't make this plane fly before it's ready or you'll get bit!

I spent flights four and five doing touch and gos and full stop landings learning it's quirks. I'm feeling pretty good about this plane now and it's handling.

I noticed that when starting to bank the plane rolls slowly until you get more aileron into it then it roll pretty quickly. It feels differently when banking for turns than my other planes, the weird wind may have had something to do with it.

The last flight of the night was the best, the winds had calmed down. I think this will be a fun little plane once I master it's quirks, I'm OK with quirks, that's what makes the hobby fun and why I have so many different planes.

I noticed this tendency too on my old V1. It isn't the wind. I found it so annoying that I sold her.

This is not one of my favorites. In my opinion, there is too much plastic and the wing is too fragile. I have flown mine only one time. It hangs in the hanger where it will probably stay. I do like the size though.
