Bit of a delay. The supervisors said the base material that was under our Geotex has way too much sand content so they have to remove all that and then replace it with 10-15 dump truck loads of better base material. Fortunately there is major earth moving going on all around our field so the contractor said he would provide the material free of charge.
Second delay is we have a storm brewing in the gulf and that has all that sort of work on hold for the time being. Hopefully get started in another week or so when things dry out.

        After the hurricane....

I was able to make it into where our field is located. Not too worse for wear just need to collect all our bench's and tables and move them back into position. Unfortunately, the county is going to be REALLY business for at least a month and our runway project is not a priority. No telling when we will be able to complete the new runway. We had already pulled the GeoTex..

Beeg, I'm glad you're okay. I'm a few days behind in the Stateside news (we've had two typhoons in the past nine days here in southern China), but it looks like complete madness down there in Houston. Hope all our forum family is safe.

Thanks Alpha. I think Rifleman was the only other regular Squawker in the area. I think he's OK too.

This is a very interesting subject and could be a game changer for many rc fields not on airplane runways.... could you image off road and oval tracks for the car folks as well. I'm very excited to see the outcome and longevity of this product and products like it.
. The next hurdle is to keep the damn 4 wheelers from tearing it up when the club is vacant and the heathens come out to destroy everything in their path. This has been a big issue for geo tex runways and the club's that uses them..

Yep. When I was down taking the latest pictures of our field I noticed the ATV's had spun a few donuts between the covers and the runway in the grass. Maybe when we get things improved and the dirt work is finished we can focus on what it takes to minimize the accessibility of the kids coming around tearing things up.

After much delay since the hurricane back in August we are FINALLY proceeding with the new runway work. Best part is we have the local dirt movers AND county doing the dirt work.

Here is a pictures of our existing airfield. the new plan and construction.

We have rain expected starting tomorrow so that will delay the the application of the surface binding agent but we are all excited that we are finally getting to this point. I'll post details of product, procedure, actual finished quality and expenses once we get finished. HOPEFULLY, this will be the new big thing for not only RC airfields but the potential for many types of soil prep for durability use are numerous. Again, the county is taking a very active interest in how this all turns out for their planning of future projects due to it's low cost and environmentally friendly composition.

Yes, we're hoping to make it a premier RC field in the Houston area. I know your a long way up in the Permian Basin but if you're ever down this way drop on by!
