  • F4U down for the last time.

Not ashamed to admit I actually cried tonight. I dont know if its the upcoming knee surgery or the realization that I will not fly this summer or the crash or all of it. But I am truly heart broken like I have never been before. I love this bird so much. It was my second warbird. I have always flown it with grace and it has always treated me like it should. Except when something goes wrong. I lost this plane once in a freak brown out and it crashed into a building half a mile from were I was. AMA covered the damage to the building. Then I rebuilt it. Then in a tail gust it pancaked 10 feet off the run way. Then tonight 10 feet off the deck the wind shifted from a south 5mph to a 180 N 15 gust and it lifted it and flung it into a hydrant. I cried my damn eyes out. I have no idea what to say other than this plane has some sort of omen as no other plane in my hanger has ever had issues like this. Truly bummed and depressed. I just cant afford to rebuild it again. Especially given its history. Click image for larger version

I feel for you AZ. My FMS Corsair has always had this Murphy's curse on it and I hate to fly it and have something happen to it because I love that plane so much. But their made to fly so what can you do. Good luck on your surgery and look forward to flying another corsair and having fun.

Bummer. I lost my Durafly Corsair back in January. My favorite plane.Had a few mods that took time to do. Not replaceable-discontinued. At least the FMS version is still available. My condolences.

I do know the feeling AZ. I really hate it when inanimate objects start feeling empowered and jump out in front of planes. The planes with the worst luck seem to be the best to fly in my experience. You have my condolences my friend, and best of luck in your upcoming surgery.

I really feel for you, especially as it was not actually you're doing ass such. I hope all goes well with the knee surgery. Let us know how it goes. I've had a total hip replacement, in fact, they liked me so much they had me back to do the other one as well.

Man that sucks, know the feeling all too well. I had the 1700 size ,just sold it afew days ago... but had alot of mishaps with it myself, which ended up destroying the wing, just like yours ... then when I bought a new wing ,took it up,and the damn gear wouldnt come down, so had to set er in a field ...which happend to hit the biggest clump of hard grass ,crushing the cowl inward....sooooo had to buy a new fuse!

Wow that really sucks, you know what they say about bad news, it comes in three's, I guess in your case its true. I dont know why as pilots we always seem to impact the only lone tree for miles around, or hit the only rock in the entire field, or in your case impact the item which would cause the most damage. As they always say, tomorrow is a new day, Keep the faith!

This is so true about this hobby you buy the planes that you love the looks or appearance of. You treat them like a baby and they fly so well then one day the airplane Gods come and taketh away. Sorry to hear about this and hope your surgery goes well!!

                      G'day AZ,
Mate, I feel for you. Sometimes it happens no matter we do. I crashed my V2 Corsair on landing one day when a 'willy willy' [I think you call them dust devils] caught me just off the ground and threw the model about ten metres in the air and onto its back. It was lucky that it came down in long grass and did no damage.
Also good luck with your op. I had my ACL rebuilt over twenty years ago. It takes a while to get the confidence back and to trust it.
I go in on Wednesday to get my Carpel tunnel fixed in both hands. Out of action for a couple of weeks.
Might be interesting trying to wipe my backside! I might have to go outside and get hosed off:);)

Anyway, now that I have left you all with that thought, all the best AZ.

                      Regards and respect
                      Daryl
