Great flying airplane. Great looking, too. However, the collapsing nose gear takes all the fun out of flying the thing. Despite flying from a smooth petro-mat runway, the nose gear collapses on nearly every landiing. So far. I've been able to disassemble and reset the mechanism, but it's a tedious and unrewarding effort given the inevitability of the next failure. The gear doors are no longer serviceable, so they're trashed after only half a dozen flights. I don't even chance retracting the gear out of concern for their reliability. All said and done, I'm sorry that I bought this plane.

I have a friend who has this plane. I think it was an earlier version (V2 maybe?) and his stock front retract is garbage. I would have thought that by V4, FMS would have something better in there. He has not flown his plane in over 2 years because he's sick of dealing with the nose gear.
Can you elaborate on what the "004" retract is? Is this one of the mains? What plane does it come out of?

You need to drill the trunnion out all the way so the steering shaft can work. Ditch the plastic gear closing system and I just bent a paper clip to serv as the same thing but it allowed room for the beefy retract. Never had a issue since. I do have the steel side plates and steel trunnion from small cnc.AMA 1102566

G'day gang,
I have also put the 003 retract in the nose.
When I went to drill the trunnion, the top of the blind hole was paper thin and I actually pushed the drill bit through by hand! I also filed the top of the hole flat to let the E clip on the nose leg to sit flat.
I made some brackets to allow the fitment of the 003 mech. All up, it took about two hours but I think I can do my other T-28 in about forty five minutes.
I have not been able to test fly her yet due to some bad weather and surgery on my hands but it will happen soon.
Regards and respect
Daryl
