I guess I am the new kid on the block. When I started in this hobby back in '64 I built my own single channel transmitter and receiver in a high school electronics class. I put it into my Goldberg Skylane with a rubber band escapement. Boy......., has this hobby come a long way and a whole ton cheaper since then. After 40 years of teaching, coaching and raising a family I find myself once more dreaming and drooling over the different kind of models and manufactures. There is so many different kind of foamies out there. I was use to balsa wood, Ambroid glue with tissue paper, clear or colored dope and the Cox .049 Golden Bee.
I have always been drawn to "big". I do have the the 1700mm Corsair. I would like to see some other larger aircraft offered besides the P-47 and P-51. I have watched Rich's teaser and build of the LX B-25. Its wings look to me like a Canada goose in flight. It might be a good idea to get some ideas from Steve at Killerplanes on how to "'crashproof" or re-enforce that part of the plane. I have decided that I will only buy it from MRC, if it is ever offered, because in my opinion, MRC is the very best(hands down) when it comes to honesty, integrity, customer service, parts and products available.
Here is my wish list when it comes to "big" (79" - 84" or so wing spans):
1a. A B-25 with working bomb bay doors. (Got to have a little competition)
2a. A B-24 Liberator with working bomb bay doors.
3a. A B-17 with working bomb bay doors.
4a. The P-61 Black Widow
5a. Last, but not least, the TBF Avenger

Well, as a fellow teacher, I'd say that you may have been out of the RC game for while but, looking over your wish list it appears you're back with a vengence. That's an awesome wish list.

Let's hope the MRC elves are listening.

Kudo's on your decision and appraisal of MRC.
There's just no place better or more reliable in the RC business.
There are some folks out there doing a great job supporting us flyers but, MRC just seems to do at another level.

Nice list but how about adding the B 26 Martin Marauder and the UK's Lancaster bomber. It would be nice to add some bombers from Germany and Japan such as Germany's He 111 Heinkel, Ju 88 or their three engine transport the Ju 52 plus Japan's Mitsubishi G4M Betty Bomber. They would add interest for any flying field crowd.

I like all those suggestions, especially some of the more unknown Axis bombers and fighters. Perhaps one more to throw on the list would be the F7F Tigercat. I know it never saw battle in WWII, but still a really cool looking plane.

Mark reponded to my earlier request for any props. & EDF's in the 1700mm or 90mm and above saying it was in the works, but also indicated they ( Freewing/FMS) are concerned about the large capital investment in these large birds (molds, ect) so here's hoping.

I fly the 72" B-17 Memphis Belle, nothing like the sound of a 4 engine bird to get your heart pumping. What's surprising is it flys like a glider with the size of those wings and how lightweight it is, definitely not for breezy or windy days. I also fly the 79" super B-25 and P-40, speed demons they are not, but for scale you just cant beat them. I take great care of them and fly maybe once or twice a month. Hope MRC and Freewing/FMS does decide to expand their line but do realize the costs associated with not only Mfg. but in warehouse space needed for stocking.

I for one would really like to see a photo of your most impressive big wing birds.

I have never flown anything in the 70" wingspan category. That has to be a thrill.

Wife and 4 kids, she is a sweetie. She kids that I should be committed to RCMA (RC modelers anonymous). I try to keep all birds in flightworthy status, and give the ones I have outgrown to local neighbor kids. It is very cool to see how excited and passionate kids are to this hobby, and to provide them with an airworthy trainer to get them started. Im sure you guys see this but I run into parents when I am flying locally, who tell there tails of woe when they buy their kids a $200 first plane, then proceed to crash it on the first flight, traumatized and vowing never to fly again. I recall my first bird and flight with my Apprentice which lasted about 10 seconds and ended in pieces. I was so heartbroken I stored the pieces in the corner of the garage out of sight. After a week I was able to take a closer look at the damage and found it could be easily repaired. Unfortunately, this is the point where potential pilots end their new hobby. I always invite kids/parents to come out with me to fly, just to show them it is possible and hopefully motivating them to stay the course. This hobby having such a steep learning curve makes it all too important to offer guidance, mentorship, or just plain hanging out talking planes with others who have a passion for flight.

You are an excellent Ambassador of our hobby. You get it.

Like most of our important life lessons, we need to get the young kiddos interested early and teach them that it's ok to fail and try again. Unfortunately, learning to fly an RC airplane/aircraft doesn't always gel with the younger microwave, instant gratification generation.

If it takes too long to get the handle on something, throw it in the closet and move on to something else.
I believe you hit it square.... mentorship is the key. A little pinch of patience mixed with an attitude of caring and we can win the youngstes and strengthen our hobby as we head into the future.

Keep up the great work. Keep on inviting them.

Ct I wish I lived closer . My problem is the closest club to me is a hour away . I have a large High School that has a great practice field for football team . Great low turf that is very well groomed . No power wires just a few light poles on outer edges . Between Real Fight 7 and Rich at Rc Informer talking on phone with tips , I'm pretty much self taught . I am no where near the experienced Noob stage yet but I wont give up . I so worry about crashing that my hands still shake and sweat . Love to have a mentor like you . Kids need that different thing to keep them out of trouble or even outside doing things . Kudos to you ! I have two Grandsons who love to fly with me and it means the world to me to have them with me .

You are lucky, I am still waiting on my grandkids. Im sure everybody can relate to those times when you just throw your hands up and say thats it! All of my times like that lasts about an hour, then its back to fighting the good fight.

Many times after leaving the field with damaged planes and a lousy day at the field I think.. "Maybe I just wasn't cut out to have this hobby." Then a few days later you begin to repair or order replacment parts and are ready for the next session at the field.

On the infrequent days I do have a good day when eveything went as you wished then you get that "Yes" feeling like you just won the ball game with that clutch hit in the bottom of the ninth.

I forgot to ask you earlier......... If you don't mind.


On your B-60 Duke Twin, did you stay with the Pull-Pull system for the nose gear? Or did you convert it to a pushrod/retract and servo?

I want to pick up a Duke Twin but, I have had little to no luck in the past installing a Pull-Pull system that I was happy with and didn't have minimal slop in it no matter what I did.

I have read on another forum of some folks who have converted theirs so I thought I would ask.
I'm not totally opposed to the Pull-Pull, though I'm thinking I could sure use a few tips to improve my installation procedure/process.
