    Greetings Gang,

Ok, I know this plane isn't available through MRC, but it's soooo cool and in my opinion so unique I just had to share it.

Yep!, It's a foamie AND it's totally Electric!!!!

Man, that looks great! Thanks for sharing the picture of it. I am sure it will fly as good as it looks, and with that bright red, visibility should not be an issue!

      Love it Bill!!
MRC should be giving this bird a lot of consideration! A lot of us long-in-the-toothers remember these wizzing around the skies. I drove past the old airfield just outside of Cloverdale BC when we were up there and it looks like its long since gone, back to being a farmers field again I guess.
This was the plane that got me excited about RC flying, took me years to get going, but I never lost the passion.
This plane definitely needs a video Bill, and a sound system like I said before!!

            Greetings Loneflier,

I have had the stik in the air for 4 flights.
On the maiden flight all that was require was a couple of clicks to the elevator and she flew......
Well, just like a stik. I haven't touched the trims since.

It's actually quite fast and maneuver's with authority. Folks have a really difficult coming to grips with the fact that it is foam and electric (until I spin it up and no noise comes from the engine).

I think it's an awesome little plane for the money.
            I highly recommend it.

Thanks Bill-I appreciate the flight review. Let's see, where can I hide another model from my wife?! Ha! Yep, this one is going on my "get it" list!

I have actually bought quite a few of the Durafly lineup, and so far, I have been impressed with all of them. Really nice fliers, good power, nice scale detail, and they fit in the car well. I know Durafly is an HK exclusive, but I wish FMS would open up a line of 1100mm planes that MRC could carry!

                Re: Das Ugly Stik

                Greetings Loneflier,

Seems to me I remember the subjest of MRC latching on to the Durafly line somewhere in a different post topic. The big boy's nixed it strait away.

From Durafly I have the SKY Mule and of course the Das Ugly Stik and I am very pleased with both. Moreso, than most of the planes I have from Dynam (two of which arrived considerably damaged recently. One an original purchase which was returned and the other the replacement of the same plane!).

Anyway, I look forward to seeing a couple of your Das Ugly Stik photos sometime in the future.

                  Re: Das Ugly Stik

Sorry to hear about your issues with the new Dynam planes. I hope you can get one that isn't damaged. Can you tell if they are being damaged in shipping, or were they packed damaged from the factory?

My experiences with Dynam have mostly been positive. I have their 1270mm T28 in grey, and the AT6 Texan. Both fly well, though the T28 is much easier to land. The Texan will tip stall readily if it gets too slow. I have a few others, but have not built them yet, so I can't comment on their flying characteristics, but all arrived in good shape.

In the Durafly lineup, I have the Stuka and the Monocoupe. Both fly really well, but I absolutely love the Monocoupe. Very fun flyer, plenty fast, aerobatic, and shows up great in the sky. If FMS made the Monocoupe in a 1400mm version, I would have to have it!

                    Re: Das Ugly Stik

                    Greetings,

I'd have to say in one cast it was definately manufacturer defects.
In the other, it could have been either.

I was pretty dissapointed especially when the second one showed up damaged.
I was really anxious to fly this plane. (Dynam Turbo Jet - one yellow, one white)

                    Still hoping.......

I am sure they will get it worked out. That Turbo Jet is pretty cool looking. I've seen some on this forum that were modified and painted and really look great. I don't have much EDF experience, just the Freewing F9F and the UMX Habu. Both fly well, and I have been thinking about possibly something like the A10 since it has a good wingspan and I've heard it flies well.

Best of luck with your flying!

                        Thanks Loneflier,

I can speak for the A-10 and tell you it is indeed a good flyer.
Plus it's just flat gorgeous on the ground AND in the air.

Indeed..... Even though it's a foamie and electric, it still flies well and maintains all of the positive characteristics known throughout its lineage.

                                RE: Das Ugly Stik

                                Hi Everyone,

A little bit of history on the Das Ugly Stick for anyone who is interested. The model was designed by the late Phil Kraft, of Kraft R/C. The design dates back to the early 1970s. I'm not sure exactly when, it may even have been the late 60s. Phil Kraft designed the model as a flying test bed for his R/C systems. The original model was designed for a 60 size glow engine and had a wingspan of around 66" I believe.

The design proved to be very popular and sparked a lot of interest as an every day general sport model. The design was made available as a plan and published in Model Airplane News, and later it was made available as a kit. Many different companies have produced kits for it over the years

The design was made available in several different sizes over the years, many of which are still available today. I know of at least one foam design, and several ARTF wood versions. They range in size from small to giant, and they all follow the same basic design shape. The smallest one I saw had a wingspan of 18" and the largest was around 8ft. They may be both larger and smaller by now.

Yes I had one too, mine was a 60" version I built in 1972, and it was powered by an OS 60 glow engine.

I can imagine Phil Kraft had no idea his design would be as popular as it has turned out to be. Its one of those timeless designs that will go on forever. Its a simple model, simple and easy to build and a nice flying model with no nasty handling characteristics.

I might just have to make another one.

                                Martin.

                                  RE: Das Ugly Stik

                                  Greetings Martin,

Cool, I was never quite up on the background associated with this hall of fame aircraft!!! Thanks!!

Indeed, I would venture to guess that the Das Ugly Stik and its many iterations affectionately referred to as The Stik, is probably one of the most commonly seen planes at almost any airfield.

It's most likely the best selling 'second' plane; especially in the nitro world.

I have been flying the Great Planes, Electri-stik for a long time but I have to say (and I apologize in advance for doing so) that Hobby King's "Pseudo Nitro" release of the Das Ugly Stick foamy is one of my favorite go to planes!!!

It looks great and flies with the same reliable characteristics and speed as any other version of the Stik!! (save the giants)
Plus, the fake nitro motor simply freaks people out..... that in itself is worth the price of admission - so to speak.
                                  Definitely, worth the planes price-point.

                                  Thanks again for your research.
