The German King Tiger tank (officially designated the Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf. B Tiger II) was one of the most formidable heavy battle tanks of World War II. Introduced in 1944, it combined thick armor with a powerful 88 mm KwK 43 L/71 gun, capable of destroying enemy tanks at long range. The design was influenced by both the earlier Tiger I and the Panther, with sloped armor that improved protection against enemy fire.

Weighing almost 70 tons, the King Tiger was heavily armored, with frontal plates up to 150mm thick. This made it nearly impervious to most Allied anti-tank weapons of the time. However, its size and weight caused significant mechanical issues, particularly with its drivetrain and suspension. These problems, coupled with high fuel consumption, limited its operational effectiveness.

Approximately 489 King Tigers were produced, but they were often deployed in small numbers. Despite their intimidating battlefield presence, logistical challenges and Allied air superiority hindered their overall impact. The King Tiger remains an iconic symbol of German engineering prowess and ambition during the war but are often categorized as a representation of over-engineered complexity in contrast to the practicality required in wartime production.
