  • 1975 1/6 RC King Tiger?

Does anyone remember or know of a 1/6 RC King Tiger back in 1975 or there abouts? My friends and I were at a national Jaycee hobby and model convention at the Anaheim Convention Center (Anaheim, California) and a long time scale model enthusiast, Mr. Bob Boyington (Yes, related to famed Pappy Boyingyon), a regular contributor to ScaleModel Magazine, co-owner of The Bunker (retail hobby shopbat the Lakewood mall, Lakewood, California), and lifetime member of IPMS International had a table featuring the largest and heaviest, King Tiger tank scale model any of us had ever seen. It was painted base sand with dark green and brown camouflage, had Zimmerit, and what looked like a telescoping FM antenna stuck in the back. Bob did not or rather would not say much about it other than he was trying to generate interest. He did disclose it was not Tamiya or any manufacturer we knew, true RC no trailing wires to a handheld battery pack, and it was more expensive than we could afford on a high schooler's saved lunch money. How we could afford Tamiya models back in the day. It was at this point that we decided it was time to see the other tables and exhibits. Still for years that RC King Tiger haunted us. Out of the blue, one of us would bring it up, wondering if it ever made production and how much it really cost. Mainly, it was that out of place FM telescoping antenna that was the real bug bothering us. RC, real RC, not the attached battery wires and not the liquid fueled tethered toy store airplanes popular then, a real radio controlled model plane, tank, automobile, or boat was not easily affordable to middle-class teenagers. So, RC had to be put on hold until disposable income became reality. Reality has arrived and RC is alive and well for me now. While RC has evolved exponentially and become more affordable, I would still like to know more about the unknown relic I saw in 1975.
