  • Multi Rotor Drone

I've been flying and rebuilding small multi Rotor drones and going to upgrade to a more expensive model. The current one I fly is valued at slightly over $100. The one I am interested in purchasing soon is the DJI Phantom 2+. Is the Phantom a stable flying easy to operate/repair out of the box or should I be looking at other units before I move to the Phantom? Any suggestions would help Me (a 55 year old Male) make good choice to advance too?

I am personally only an airplane pilot. However, I jumped on the idea of owning and flying the PV2+, because I studied video after video, after video to see if it was possible for me fly, record, and shoot, without crashing $1300.
I've never flown a helicopter, except on simulator. I crash almost every time, because I just can't get the hang of it yet.
Wow, was I shocked at how easy it was to fly this beauty. But....I would have to say that it's probably because I studied every tutorial and every video out there.

I don't know if they are still out there, but the videos that the former Head of the U.S. Operations put out as series of instructional videos, gave me insight that I couldn't find anywhere else. Even the ones that are old videos of the previous versions were extremely helpful. His name is Colin Guinn. Top, left corner is a link to a very helpful video from him. I studied this thing probably 25 times.

My first flight was in about 12-13 mph winds. It didn't matter to the Phantom. I took her to the beach in Mexico, with 23 mph winds...it didn't affect the video at all.

As long as I fly her in full GPS mode I feel totally comfortable.

The Motion RC warning says to think twice before purchasing this if you don't have experience. I somewhat agree with their position, because that's quite a bit of money to see coming down out of the sky, and not able to do anything about it but watch it kiss the earth. DJI wouldn't give you that warning because they want to sell the machine. So does MRC, but they know that if you buy it and crash it without telling you that first, they feel awful for you. They want to keep you in the air, not sitting at home explaining to your wife and friends how you blew $1300 in 8 seconds. If you heed to MRC's warning it's probably smart. But on the other hand, if you understand flying basics, have patience, and some flying skills, you will probably do alright. I've been flying RC for almost 2 years now. That helped a lot!

You asked if it's stable? It's going to blow you away how stable it is. When it's high winds and I'm not flying airplanes, guess what I'm flying?

If you decide to get it, of course get it from MRC! And, I'm 50 years old...same league my brother! Age is nothing but a thing.

    Happy flying!

Just tell her of all the wonderful benefits.

        1. Comes with optional pink decals, so you would name it after her.
        2. Can take pics of the family that no one in a 50 mile radius could do.
        3. The same with videos!
        4. Promise her you won't need to purchase anything else for at least 3 weeks. Boy, that's going to be a struggle!
        5. You'll let her fly sometimes too!

        Good luck!
