  • Covid -19 Lockdown Builds

During lockdown I built 2 450 size scale helicopters one is lit bashed the other is scratch built using 3d Printing. Both sets of mechanics are made up from spare parts I had in

The Hughes 300C is a Trex 450 sport with a Using the proheli Kit Canopy only the rest is either 3D printed or made from plastic card. It is based of the helicopter in the JAWS 2 movie.

The Sikorsky R4 Hoverfly is Trex 450 Pro mechanics the fuselage is 100% my own work from the 3d modelling to the finished product. I have modelled her on in a Royal Navy scheme 1947 based at hilsea aerodrome.

Hope you all like and would love to see your lockdown heli projects

Those look fantastic, excellent work! I love the R-4. Any chance you would be interested in sharing the files? Also, what did you use for the raised tail gearbox?

      Thanks.

The Tail is shaft driven with an intermediate gear inside the tail boom. I designed and 3D printed the gearbox housing and used stock tail bevel gears to change direction. By using an idler angle to about 80 degrees is possible

As for sharing files It is something I am going to consider. But I have to get some time on mine first to ensure that its not going to full apart. Also I want to look at the wheeled version too

That’s some really good engineering, clean and efficient! Once you have the wheeled gear version ready, consider one copy sold! I really would love to model the US Army helo that performed the first medevac mission out in Burma. May need to borrow that gearbox design as well for some other 450 projects..

How have the models been holding up? I’m still down to purchase the files for the R4 if you ever decide to make them available.

The helicopters look amazing. The 300 was one of the first helicopters I flew in as a kid, so I've always wanted a scale model. I have an Art Tech 300 canopy and scale skids and a spare 450 frame laying around which sounds like a fun project. I'll put it on the list!
