  • SO... WHO ALL ORDER THE ROTORSCALE AH-1W 470

So, who all ordered the new AH-1W? Mine should be here tomorrow and I'm stoked. I saw the fuselage a month or so back on the Roban site as a pre order when I was looking for a 700 size cobra. I elected for the 800 UH-1N last week since there wasn't any ETA on the cobra. Then this came out. It didn't take too much convincing to pull the trigger since I've wanted a Cobra for a long time. Is there anything I should lookout for with this? It will be my first GPS heli.

Received mine yesterday. Awesome shipping as always from motion. Ordered Monday night and it made it to WV Thursday morning! Everything was well packed and looked amazing. Quick check of everything while the battery was charging and it was time for a test hop in the front yard. I have not flown a GPS helicopter before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. All I can say is wow! Locked in and solid. I hovered/flew about half a pack then I realized I was as cold blooded as a cobra so back inside I went. Upon returning inside I noticed a burnt smell. It appears the turret servo fried while I was in flight. A couple of screws and a new 4.5g servo and it will be as good as new. Later I started painting the ordinance and working on the decals. I will say this. Just as mentioned in the video, I cleaned the fuselage with high quality glass cleaner, and the decals still didn't want to stick. Luckily, they give plenty of extras. Also, the use of Micro Set and Micro Sol really helped. I will get the right side on tonight and do some weathering and clear coat. Pics will be coming soon!

I ordered one, haven't flown yet but so far am pretty impressed with its scale appearance. Makes me want a Flish 500 Cobra even more.

I got one. It flies great and looks super cool in the air. Just like all the other Rotor Scale helis. This is my 5th one. Also have the Freewing Huey. Yes I'm addicted! Aloha and Mahalo to Motion RC

          Hi all,

Can a 4s 5200mah battery be used in this heli? Hard to find other 4S 4800 batteries that are not Roban.

          Thanks,
          Tony

Had I not just ordered the fairly pricey 5-blade rotor "kit" from Roban for my 470 MD500, I'd have been on this one.

I'm looking for an alternate battery too. Was going to order an extra one when I ordered the heli but Motion was out of stock. They have it now but the shipping cost alone to Hawaii is $ 82.66. 😮With the cost of the battery it would come out to almost $155.00 just for one battery. Not Happening. If I find something that works I'll post my find. Aloha!

By comparison to "normal" LiPo batteries that are used in fixed wing, these Roban batteries seem to be more compact (dimensionally) for any given mah size. So, when looking for an alternative, you need to compare the dimensions so that it will fit into the space of the heli battery location.
Having said that, have you looked into getting the stock Roban battery from these guys ................................. (60 bucks) ...........
