  • Trip From Hell

    Hi All!
So glad to be home from what turned out to be an absolute disaster.
We were going to my mom's 90th birthday in Vancouver BC. We flew Alaskan to Seattle where our flight to Vancouver was cancelled. They rebooked us on a second flight for that evening, which was cancelled as well. As it was a quick trip, and Mom's b day was the following day, we asked to be rebooked to a flight back to Billings Montana, where we started from. They told us the next available flight was Sunday night, so we overnighted in the terminal as they didn't offer us a hotel room. Sunday nights flight was cancelled as well! We're thinking "Thank God we have our original flight back home on Monday at noon.
Oh no, they were cancelled as we had rebooked for Sunday night. So now we have no way home!!! The only thing we could do was to book a flight from Seattle to Helena Montana and drive 5+ hours to Billings. Just to add to the misery, I got 'airport flu' and started throwing up at the hotel that they (Alaska Airlines) were generous enough to give us on the second night (sarcastic) and was feeling like death warmed over on that flight. We were lucky enough to meet a couple who were in the same situation and we split the bill for the rental and they drove. Got to Billings and got the truck out for paid parking and headed for home, which we finally made at 1:00 AM.
Alaska will not give us cent one for the $796.40 for the flight to Helena for two, even though this whole mess is their fault. They say they sell the flights to Expedia and have not control over that.
    Frigging ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Think it doesn't get worse??
We got a call from the folks we drove with. Their flight out of Billings suffered some mechanical failure and was cancelled......They had to fly back to Seattle today to route down to Denver and home to Texas.
God I hope they made it!!!

Glad you made it home alright Gman. I don't know w h at kind of B.S. Alaskan is trying to give you but erregardless who sells the tickets, the airline is responsible for cancellations. Write a letter to corporate and tell them your filing a complaint with the CAB and see what happens. Good luck.

            Dan,

Thats horrid. The only play the airlines can make on cancellations is when there’s weather involved. Mechanicals, no crew, etc. are always on them. They dragged you through mud.
            Currently flying: Twin 80mm A-10, 80mm F5, 80mm A6, 70mm Yak-130, 70mm F-16v2,90mm Stinger 90, 70mmRC Lander F9F, Flightline F7F TigerCat, Phoenix 46 size Tucano, Flyzone L-39
            Out of Service: 80mm Mig-21,64mm F-35, 64mm F/A-18
            I Want: 80mm A-4, twin 80mm F4J Phantom

They blamed the weather and I got an email into Brad Tilden, the Exec of the Company. He passed me off to a flunky who, well, have a read, remember it cost us $706.40 to get home and the compensations she mentions is two $150 vouchers which are good for a year, she actaully has the nerve to invite us back for more, in a way its funny. I have the name of a reporter with the Seattle Post Intelligencer that I'll get in touch with tomorrow, here, have a read......

                Dear Danny,

Your email to Brad Tilden was forwarded to me for handling. Brad asked that I personally respond on his behalf.

I was very sorry to hear of your flight cancellation and the inconvenience this all caused. I did research the compensation you have received and I am sorry that you feel it is inadequate. Unfortunately, for your situation, we cannot offer additional compensation.

I would like to once again apologize for your travel experience with us. It is always our desire to exceed the expectations of our customers. In an industry where customer service is a key feature, this is a necessity. Without customer feedback such as yours, the opportunity for improvements would not be as dynamic. Alaska truly values your patronage and I would like to invite you to join us on a future flight so that we can demonstrate the high level of service that we are known for and that you deserve.

                Sincerely,

                Adora Becker

Amazing isn't it. Like I'm really going to fly with them again and get stuck wit an $800.00 bill, not likely. I'd suggest you book another airline before flying with these guys.

I stick with Southwest, if at all possible, although they may not fly up there. I'll bet that letter really makes you feel a lot better! Doc

Great sarcasm Doc, my thoughts also.
Actually my sarcastic analogy is Dan probably just felt like he had a botched colonoscopy :Scared:(I just couldn't hold back the subtle rage anymore)
By the way, where'd she get the license to use Danny in the salutation. In all the conversations with/around Dan, I have never heard him called by that.

                        Hi Dan,

I'm sorry to read about your horrendous experience. I had a similar experience with United Airlines. However, I had a much better outcome. I was booked for a return flight to the UK in October 2010. I duly arrived at the check-in and along with several other passengers, I could not board my flight. We were told we could not board because the original aircraft had a technical issue and they had to change planes. Hmmmmm, my guess they overbooked. Anyway, United paid for a hotel and got me on a flight a couple of days later to the UK and they also gave me a free flight as well.

                        Martin.

                          Not finished fight yet!
Just filed a complaint with the DOT
                          See what happens now.
BTW, my birth certificate reads "Danny" mom didn't like Daniel, but more to the point, Mr. Gross would have been more appropriate, sounds like she's talking down to me. I didn't write Bradley there so I could talk to a flunky, I was done talking with the angels, I was going to God .
