First Star Wars movie (renamed Episode IV after major CGI editing and purposefully losing the original) was an extreme jump in special effects and the lack of a decent story just didn't matter. It became an instant cult classic.

2nd and 3rd movies Built on the marginally believable premise of some "Force" (Farce)that gave superhuman abilities to the select few. (if it had been true then those with it would have enslaved those without it millennia before) The even more unbelievable premise of there being only 2 Sith at a time was just pure BS with the "Jedi" having to constantly guide their students not to "use the dark side"

Space Balls was more believable than Star Wars.

Yup. It is my favorite after the originals. I really love the tie in to Episode 4.
