  • Airventure Oshkosh 2016

Just got back from EAA Oshkosh Airventure, and it was a blast! The warbirds and Airshow were fantastic as usual, and it was a real treat to see the Snowbirds perform. Also I got to meet the good folks at Motion and check out the new Bearcat, and got to chat with Josh Bixler from Flite Test! Thought I would share a few of my favorite pictures from the grounds and Airshow.

Great pics. Thanks. I really must try to make it to Oshkosh before I die. It's been on my bucket list for decades. Nice to see our Snowbirds made it there. I'm surprised your own Blue Angels didn't (or did they?).

No, no Blue Angels this year. The military demos tend to rotate out. Some years it is the Thunderbirds, some the Blue Angels, and some it is other military demo teams. This year we had an F-18 and F-16 demo team perform. Previous years have also seen the V-22 Osprey, Harrier, and F-22 demo teams. We also did have a C-5 show up for some low passes and park at the show for tours. And yes, Oshkosh is a must for every aviation enthusiast. Since my family lives in MN, it is a yearly tradition for us to go there. You will need to plan for 2-3 days there just to take in everything! But, book your hotel about 6 months in advance if you want to stay within an hour of the show..

No, unfortunately. My brother had the camera when I was talking to everyone there. Besides, Motion and Xplaneguy's photos are better than anything I was going to take in a shaded tent.

Anyone who has not attended this event should really go. It is absolutely amazing. Air shows are going on pretty much all hours of all days. There are thousands of full scale planes, perhaps 10 of thousands of planes at this event. In order to see everything, you really need to spend about 4 days there. If you want to see it, it is likely there. For example, you can get into a B-29 (dropped bomb on Hiroshima), walk across the way and see an A-10 and talk to the pilot, look up and see an F-16 performing gravity defying aerobatics. It goes on like this constantly every minute of every day. The Oshkosh Wittman Regional airport becomes the busiest airport in the world during this week. Yes, it sees more air traffic than O'hare and JFK.
