I was having difficulty programming the AS3Xtra for different flight modes. I could not get the receiver to blink 3 times to confirm the programming was successful.
I found the solution on another RC forum and it works.
The Ail, Elev, and Rudd control surfaces have to be set at 100% throws at the time of programming for it to work.
Problem solved.
