Hello Jim,
I personally have never been impressed with that e-flite overpriced box. A lot of electric guys at my club(am VP there) got turned on to these when I should up with a couple.
Below are some links to check em out.

I can see where the aluminum box would be good protection but do you worry about the batteries getting to hot in them while in the vehicle or at the field.
I picked up this box that I put almost everything in when heading out to fly. Has a organizer on top for quick and easy access. When I head up the steps from my mancave to fly. The box has everything in it but my transmitter and planes.
farmflyer - never had an issue with heat. When the cases are in the sun that alum reflects and the interior stays cool because it is lined, but I generally don't leave the case out in the sun a lot because the club has a covered patio area. My main reason for the alum case is for vaulting(cheap version) the batts and those things are damn rugged too.
Lon - I looked at something like those at Lowes but one of the things that swung me to the alum case was the rubber feet on the bottom which keeps them stationary in the back of my F150.

Ahh, yes..good thinking. Mine goes into the back of carpeted Traverse, so didn't have to think about sliding.
