  • Eagle A3 Pro (The red one)

Whenever I set up my Hobby eagle A3 pro gyro in my Spitfire (Motion 1600mm) , do I need to initialize it with the tail leveled? Some folks have told me to do so, just wanted to double check on this site.

I use the Eagle A-3L and I level out my tail draggers before initalizing and it seems to be fine. There is no mention of that in the manual but others have stated that they also do that.

When I use my A3L's and I have a bunch of them, I sit the plane on the ground, tail wheel on the ground and fire up the radio, then plug in the battery. The receiver sounds the cell count and the airplane 'twitches', then she's good to go.
That's the way to do it with the Spitty as well.
A friend of mine just bought an A3 Pro and we're trying to get it set up through a 6 channel Admiral receiver using a DX8 2nd gen. I'm trying to assign channel five to the 'B' switch and channel 6 to the roller knob and can't seem to make it work. If I go into the servo adjustment channel and watch the graph for channel 5 nothing moves when I change switch 'B' s positions. Everything binds up on the airplane but the gyro shows solid red, meaning its off. All control surfaces function, just can't seem to get the switch assignment correct. I use a 1st Gen DX 8 so the programming I'm used to is different. Any suggestions!?

Hey Dan, doesn't red mean it's in 3D mode?

No, in this model, red is off, I have it programmed within the receiver that position 0 is off (red), position 1 is trainer(yellow), and Position 2 is normal (green). No luck yet, I have it mirroring my Pitts which has an A3L in it. Both planes have no L/G or Flaps. I have all the gains cranked up and nothing, even if the red was 3D, it would be twitching, but nothing...….

Read that and went through the complete program hours ago, it still doesn't react to the mode switch

Wouldn't you know it, a faulty cable to the mode input. Replaced and it works fine.

You wouldn't believe the hours I've spent troubleshooting a problem at work, only to find it was something bonehead simple like that.

Way back in late 1977 to early 1978, when I was at USAF Tech School, one of my instructors often repeated the mantra, "Check Power Supplies First." You wouldn't believe how many times that simple rule has saved me a lot of time in repairing something. That's really basic, and makes so much sense, as the power supply affects everything else in a circuit. Still, I've run across a lot of technicians and engineers that don't think about that before they spend a lot of time tracing through a circuit.

I wonder why we always assume its something more complicated. Yesterday I changed the batteries in the furnace thermostat, plugged it back to the wall receptacle and nothing, blank screen, wouldn't work....
Checked everything out to the point of putting the old batteries in and nothing. Called the furnace repair guy and he recommended a new thermostat. Then, he accidentally dropped the old one. Wouldn't you know it, it started working again. Heck, I could have dropped it on the floor!!!

I have about 7 A3 gyros. Just let the plane remain still after you turn it on until it initialises. The original levelling. (holding tail up) is done in the initial set-up. You don't do it every time you turn it on.

Hey guys. I've been using A3 Super IIs and A3 Super 3s (black label) for a while now. This is my first time with the A3 Pro (red label). Everything setup okay, and like usual the normal stabilization mode works just fine. However, this is the first time I'm trying to setup "Trainer mode" for a buddy boxable airplane. The plane is a tail dragger. So the issue is when I switched on "trainer mode" the plane would dive pretty hard. So I went into the setup and did the auto level calibration with the plane at flight level. It dove even harder, which made sense because I basically calibrated with the nose pointed more level or down than it was with the gyro at default. I then re-did the calibration with the tail on the ground. This is where it got weird. Because now when I would turn trainer mode on. The plane would mostly stay level. Maybe climb a bit with full throttle (which is okay for a high wing). However, as I would fly around a circle pattern. The plane would start to have a tendency to dive again about half way around a circle. Which makes no sense at all. The gyro is mounted firmly and cannot move. Making things even weirder is if I turn trainer mode off then back on. It starts to hold level or even climb some until I start flying around a circle again, then the same thing happens.

So does anyone have any idea what is going on here? I'm thinking some kind of defect with the accelerometer axis of the controller. But I figure I'd put it out here to see if there might be something I'm missing.

Also, it was weird that the instructions said flashing purple light meant Trainer mode, and that was supposed to be one of the default modes. However, mine came default with a solid purple light, which the manual indicates is "auto level" mode. So I changed it to proper trainer mode. Since I don't want my trainees able to do full rolls or loops in this mode. I guess the manual either has a typo or mine came set wrong from the factory.

                              Hi guys,
Similar issue here. Just pot another A3 Pro 6 axies, mounted and programed it like I did any other. I use a 3 level switch to use it as normal, trainer and auto-level. Works fine in normal mode but when I switch to trainer and auto-level it then corrects my aileron right about 30 degrees.
I took the time to do factory reset, tried ( because it doesn't work ) to re calibrate the accelerator sensor, tried new servo and so on. Simply won't change the problem.
It seams like the there is batch out there that is defective.

Will try to contact the store that sold it to me on Monday.

                              Any suggestions?

                              Antoine

Looking for help with the AL3 Pro ( the red one)

                                Hello,
I am a new purchaser of the A3 Pro and am looking forward to flying with it. While the manual is comprehensive, I do have a question.
If I put say 'OFF' 'ATTITUDE LOCK' & 'NORMAL' on the 3 position switch can I put 'AUTO LEVEL' on the momentary switch?

                                Many thanks for your help.
